I think my foaf made a mistake with misting.
    #2774269 - 06/08/04 10:57 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Her poorman's pod is at 99% but still the casing seemed to be drying out so she tried misting with 5% hydrogen peroxide and water solution. It is very dry where she lives. Now on one casing her myc isn't fuzzy anymore and seems a little "flat". What did she do wrong? Is there a better way to "water" her myc? ought she try dunking the poor thing?? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you flaterned it a little with the sprayer.
It will recover in time.

If i have a casing that feels dry (weight is important, lift it, is it light?)
I tend to pour in bottled spring water in one corner, then capilary
action spreads the water throughout the casing, i use a cup of water
at a time, and pour out any excess after 15 mins. This allows the casing to soak in what it needs.

Interesting idea. Have you done this with a dung based substrate, or grain?

If I am not mistaken,ANNO did an excellent write-up on the effects of water impact on mycelium.I tried to do a search for you,but came up empty handed.Maybe send Anno a pm and he can answer you.

Dung and straw only, unsure how good grain would be
for capilary action to work, it might just sit in the bottom
if there isn't enought fibreous material.

Well, I guess it's not that light. Maybe since it's her first time, my foaf is just impatient and unsure. I don't think she killed it or anything. Thanks Loki, she will do that today. She is using magash's grain tek in his poorman's pod but with more verm than coir since she lives in a really dry area. And thanks Doc, I will pm Anno and see if I can get a hold of the water faq. And Oreganojoe, no she hasn't tried dunking- this is her first grow.
