Thanks for the info! I found a useful website for the position of the sun that will help, it's called SunCalc (make sure it's the site that ends in .org), there's also a Android SunCalc app, not sure if there's an iOS version.

It's a little different every year, like flowers blooming or leaves starting to grow on trees. This is my first year hunting, also. I've been keeping tabs on this thread, and following the weather forecast. If I were only looking at weather, I'd say at least another week or two before it warms up. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone finds nearby!

Good luck hunting!! This is my 3rd season hunting, feeling good because I've learned a lot from you guys. It's been mid 50's during the day and 30s at night up here in MA. Probably a week or two until things get going.

always amazing was only 8-9 years ago that no one was looking for spring actives... esp being so widespread, just amazing. I am sure there must of been pockets of folks who picked them and maybe thought were cyans or something....

Went out to a state park near Catonsville yesterday. A ton of Japanese Knotweed and Box elders - seemed like really ideal habitat. Didn't have any luck though. It's my first year hunting and maybe I just overlooked them.

Yeah I went to Potapsco State Park which Mushroom Observer had some voids found in the previous years. I think I was too early. I did manage to find what I think were Galerina Marginata. In any case, they certainly weren't active.

I'll dm you if I come up with anything active after I go hunting over there again and somewhere a bit closer to where I live later this week or early next week.

Does anyone know if ovoids have been found in eastern North Carolina? Checked mushroom observer and saw no observations there.

Yep, that's where I was. Thanks I would really appreciate the heads up. I don't get to get out much, so having the confirmation that they have arrived in that area would be very helpful.

Definitely. Rayfellow just said he found some in NC, so they should be present throughout the state.

Second time out this season so far, I observed about a hundred fruits. They were hard to spot today, really had to dig around. I have found it true, if I find one, drop to my knees and search. In every case so far I have found more. Happy hunting.

It dropped to 31 degrees for a few hours last night. It was wet Monday too. They seemed ok I hope. Not squishy and smelled good.

Did some hunting in NoVa this morning along a river and creek system with plenty of flood plains filled with drift wood and boxelders all around. Didn't find anything. Seemed like the ground was pretty dry considering the rain that came thru earlier in the week....
