I quit whisky and feel (and look) much better * 5
    #27682481 - 03/04/22 12:42 PM (1 year, 10 months ago)

barely a week sober but the effects are noticeable. after two years of heavy drinking, i finally have the strength to forget my heavy nights of whiskey and loneliness.

The last few weeks I began to feel heavier liver and a little discomfort in that area.

my face became red, oily and swollen. my tongue had a constant spicy taste. I could smell the smell of alcohol in my mouth and on my skin, all day. Psychologically I was confused most of the day, until the afternoon when I started drinking again.

This week I am a different person. my mind is clear and my will is strong. my face is clean. The swelling disappeared.

the reason for drink was boredom and frustration. It who started as a good relaxing time ended in sadness and embarrasement.

the reason for quitting was embarrassment and exhaustion of hiding my weak side.

I know that it is a daily battle against the darkest side of my mind and soul.

hope don't fall again.

Alcohol really is the hardest drug. Good on you for making the healthy choice.

Brother, I know what you mean. I wish you all the strength in staying sober.
Im struggling with the booze, have most of my adult life. When I do manage to stop drinking (sometimes for months), Im a different man. Waking up not feeling tired, able to work much more, not so lethargic and just looking forward to the evening when I can drink again.
Alcohol is a demon, and a shame we all have such easy access to it, legally! Causes more heartache and pain for singles and families than we should ever allow. A legal way to keep the public subdued (laughable when you see the effects of it daily on the news and in the courts).
Ive never been an AA type guy, so deal with it on my own, as you are.
Again, you have my utmost respect.

I was drunk for 12 years until I found out about ibogaine.  Lost my family and home and almost my career over it.

Been sober now for almost 8 years and it's been easy.  No AA, no cravings, no nothing.  Just equanimity regarding booze.

Wish society wouldn't have hid that from me.  I and millions of others would have sure had a better time of it.

Hey man I hope you're doing well! I had just as hard a time coming off alcohol as I did heroin. It truly is a poison. I've had periods of months and years off booze. My last bender was fall of 2019 and I quit right before the pandemic, had 2 slip-ups since. The important thing is to get back up as soon as you fall and surround yourself with supportive people. It's an entire lifestyle change. Sometimes ya gotta keep some people at an arm's length, and that's OK. And don't be afraid to reach out if you're struggling! Things easier said than done but it's easier than we make ourselves think.

I was a 2 doubles with dinner kind of guy.  Did a dry January, have been mostly California sober since then.  (Weed and shrooms, and trying to cut back on the weed.) I do have a drink with a friend once a week, we limit it to 2 normal sized drinks. Lost 20lbs so far (4 months), would like to drop another 20-25 to be at the top of my healthy range.  Getting too old to be this fat.

It feels so good to stop drinking alot my eyes had yellowing under them during my half gallon a day times. Could feel it smell the vodka on my sweat in the morning. Numbing yourself is such less progressive then facing stuff head on. (IME)
