Thanks for sharing the pictures!! Such lively, burgeoning patches! It instills such hope...
I haven't had luck finding ovoids in my area of the Willamette Valley yet (Benton Co.), so I was thinking of following some tips from iNaturalist and hunting near the waterfront in PDX and around Forest Park. My major question is... in anyone's experienced opinion, it going to be more worthwhile to focus on the mulched, landscaped areas of parks, or the wilder, riparian zones that more closely resemble the ovoid's natural habitat?
Any ideas of ways I could focus my search? Or shall I just stop being impatient and let nature take its course, knowing I'll find em when I find em
Also, follow up q: even though this current dampness is fabulous, will the chilly temperature interfere with growing conditions? Would it be better to wait until it warms up again next week to go foraging?
Cheers everyone

Pretty sure they only grow on mulch in the PNW. They haven't quite become part of the natural riparian habitat that they are on the east coast.

There have been limited finds in riparian areas, but the ones I have seen are adjacent to parks/mulched areas and just made a short hop. I'd still count them as mulch/park ovoids really.
VF, focus on the mulched parks. You want WOOD CHIPS, not bark mulch, leaf mulch, ect. Try to find areas of the landscape that draw water towards the chips, i.e. the bottom of a hill as apposed to the top. Look for woodchips that have lighter colored patches in them from mycelium and focus in on those to look for mushrooms/pins. Bring some water and a snack, you're going to get distracted searching and suddenly be hungry or parched.

What about the violent fly's question about the PNW's current cold spell? I realize hard answers are difficult, to say the least, but I am certainly interested in other people's ovoid experiences.
Last year was the first spring I hunted ovoids, with no success, in and around Portland, Or, which wasn't totally unexpected but still very disappointing considering my good luck picking fall actives for years (dang 2021 was a good fall in PTown)

Honestly I already broke the rules by discussing hunting techniques and habitat in thread. Discussing the weather is also against the rules.
This is a thread for posting finds.
I assure you if you look through past discussion threads in mushroom hunting and identification you will find the answers you are looking for.
I will no longer be answering questions in this thread about habitat, season, and weather... or the immoral and delicious practice of combining dill pickles, mayo, and peanut butter in a fried sandwich.
Edit: Pic tax
Sorry for the boring already picked pile, just wanted to let y'all know they're still out there.

Fantastic!
Glad to know I'm not the only one that gives the big clusters little smacks!

Found in Snohomish County, WA. Almost the exact same spot as a cyan find last fall, the only location in a large amount of habitat where I found them, which has me thinking both patches might have been an inside job (thanks if it was any of you!).
Kept the stem butts from a few and distributed them in fresh chip piles around the rest of the park...

So has the PNW just dried up?
I'm seeing tons of mushrooms growing here in the Willamette Valley, but it's pretty much all agrocybes and hyphloma...
Are people still making finds?
Oh, sorry if this bump got people excited for some shroom porn.

I really have not had many opportunities to explore but have been going back to the patches I found over a month ago to check progress. Some have faltered but some are still growing slowly. Agrocybe have moved in and are agressively fruiting in the same area.

Checked some patches today and saw several flushes. Kind of surprised because the last few years these didn't fruit until late May into June. Also the patch of ovoids that has the pointed dark cap pheno hasn't yet fruited but the caramel cap ones have started from all this April rain of late.
I'll take some of these stem butts to natural creek areas and plant them among sandy flood debris habitat.
