No I totally agree with what both of you said. I guess when I think of innocence I’m literally just thinking about not doing “bad shit” and all the stuff I’ve done to screw myself up. The not having any wisdom part I’d never want to go back to. I never stood up for myself or anything either and it made school hell.

Yeah but is it actually the same? Just because you don’t do those things anymore it’s not like you didn’t. That’s like losing your virginity then practicing abstinence and saying you’re still a virgin lol.

They do stupid shit to try to get away with stuff but they’re still innocent at heart. They don’t understand consequences or the concept of good and bad fully.
I get what you’re saying. I guess if we’re looking at it like being guilty or innocent of committing a crime or something then yeah you’re right. I think OP was referring to childlike innocence though.
The “bad things” I’m talking about would be better defined by saying morally corrupt, I guess. People can argue about what’s good and what’s bad all day but I believe most of us have a fundamental idea of good and bad.
In reality, none of us has ever been fully innocent of everything. Especially if you’re catholic apparently.

Well the question is pretty vague anyway and idk if they were looking for super deep answers or anything but yeah there are plenty of factors that come into play. And I agree with your statement about it really just being naivety. I guess in my mind it and innocence kinda go hand in hand when you’re below a certain age or mental capacity.
My actual experience is having a good childhood going to church every time the doors were open with a super conservative and Christian family. It was never beaten into me or anything but it was definitely how we lived our lives. I don’t think that’s necessary for being a good person or any of that but I do think the foundation of it comes with a lot of good if you apply it to your life. I, however, fell away and have done a whole lot of shit that I wouldn’t have ever imagined I’d do and had stuff happen that probably wouldn’t if I had stuck to these “rules”.
Like I said I don’t regret it though. I feel like then i was super naive and I’ve learned a lot through my struggles. Shit that could come in way more handy in the future than things you learn, or don’t, when you just try to stay 100% on the straight and narrow.

For the most part, I agree with you. I think their are some churches though that actually do help out their community a lot and do whatever they can to be beneficial to society. I’ve learned a lot from church and I’ll never deny that. It was the basis of the way I treated people and considered others. I feel like it’s pretty rare to find a congregation like that though and all the bad ones really just put a giant stain on the good ones.
I live in a place where there’s not many homeless though and the church is pretty small. There are plenty that could do way more to change shit though and they choose not to for greed. Jesus wasn’t a conservative by any stretch of the imagination and if places are genuine and follow the message then it’s an overall pretty good one.
The only reason I feel bad is because growing up in that environment but also having hard drug addicts in my family, I swore a lot of things off. I promised I’d never stoop to certain levels but I’ve gone way lower. I basically had no respect for myself and was destructive as fuck. The church thing was just such a huge part of my past it’s what pops into my head when I think about all the shit I’ve done.

If you are constantly self-identifying as "guilty" or somehow corrupted, you're not being very kind to yourself, and you will have a bad day every day that you are unkind to yourself.
We often engage in guilt when we feel despair and we want to feel in control.
Self-aggression can cultivate the illusion of feeling in control.
Like when people cut themselves as a way to try to feel in control.

I agree that children aren't innocent, just naive, because I've seen some truly hateful fukin children and I'm talking 2-3 year olds. Kids that you can sense to have the ability to commit violence to the point of murder once capable. These children get a diabolical look in their eyes that I can't associate with anything other than psychopathy or Sociopaths.
I also can relate to some children of abuse being unable to understand innocence, because without love and trust, innocence doesn't exist, it just seems like a fairytale in books and movies.
One persons morals is another's sin. I would have to say that moral corruption is becoming more acceptable today. What was considered morally corrupt 60 years ago ago is widely accepted by society today in most countries around the world. So whose to say that anyone is morally corrupt when it's ok for old men to marry little girls in most countries and others think its ok to teach preschool children about gender and sexual orientation. Even murder is acceptable is many places.
