any way of preserving pan cyans?
    #2772734 - 06/07/04 08:32 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

hunting this morning an old field, i came across my first cyan!

i think....

it didnt bruise blue, but looked exactly like ones in pictures. black print, growing directly out of cow shit. do they have to bruise blue? it bruised kinda brown

how can i preserve cyans for next time? this one is now old and rotten. i believe i remember seeing that they lose all potency when dried. can i preserve it in a tea? must they be eaten fresh?

Whats more natural than a man going out and collecting medicines?

wow, old ass member and still havnt caught on? you must refere to www.google.com type in "ways to preserve mushrooms" even on the shroomery it tells you how to preserve them. as far as the brusing goes... not all mushrooms have to bruise. many pan subbs in certain areas dont bruise blue. im sure this is the way with all other active mushrooms. and they dont lose their potency. different methods make the mushrooms lose different amounts. do some experimenting and look for help on google or the shroomery.

Sounds like you probably found the in-active Panaeolus campanulatus or a similar in-active species to that.

Panaeolus cyanescens bruise blue, every single Panaeolus cyanescens will bruise blue, there is no missing it..

The best way of drying them is quickly, under a fan or a food-dehydrator. They should be crackerdry after a day of that.

you don't ruin them, they just lose some potency. Doesn't really matter, becasue they are very active!!!

I just let mine dry on paper sitting in an area with good airflow. They dry in 24-48 hours. They are still active at VERY LOW dry amounts.

To much focus is placed on this potency loss with Copelandias handling. Just be careful, and don't beat them up when you pick and transport them. I would say the same for any mushroom you pick. YES they loose some potencywhen dried, and if they are overhandled, they lose a little more.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. Common sense handling is enough.
