Detoxing this week (no reply required)
    #2772291 - 06/07/04 06:14 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Just doing this to keep myself accountable, so don't worry about responding.

I'm out of weed & just found out I get to go to Fresno this weekend, so I don't have to scramble around finding hookups down here.  I've decided to detox 'til Friday instead of scrounging around & scraping resin to get by.  Figured I might as well lay off the cigs & booze while I'm at it and clean this fucked up body out a bit.  I have no idea the last time I've even gone a day without putting something in me, so this will be good for me...hell, I don't even know what year it was. :frown:

The cigs are gonna be the hardest part 'cause I smoke in the warehouse  with one of the guys at work and I also smoke constantly when I drive.  I'm already looking forward to my after-work cig, but today I don't get one, dammit.  I don't drink much (except when I have no weed), so that shouldn't be too hard.  I'll be fiending for weed in a day or 2, but I don't have any, so I can't really slip up there.

Anyway, I figure if I start a thread, I'll have to post if I fuck up, so it'll keep me on track.  Almost made it through the first workday!  (I wake & bake and then smoke bowls at lunch everyday, so making it through work is an accomplishment for me.)

Mmmm...candy sounds good...

I actually gave in & smoked a couple cigs on the way home 'cause I was pissed & stuck in traffic, but today I didn't even bring 'em so I won't be tempted.  I can already tell the difference just in cutting down to 2 yesterday.  Some of the crap in my lungs is loosening up and I haven't hacked all day like I usually do.  Yay!

3 more days and I can get blazed as fuuuck.  Yay again! :stoned:

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.  I knew I could count on my fellow Shroomerites to help me stick to it.

So far, so good tonight - Watching the Laker game with beer in the fridge & cigs on the table & I haven't touched either one.

Is it possible to slowly stop smoking?.... like half pack a day for 2-3 months then quarter of a pack a day for 2-3 months, etc etc.

Or is cold turkey the only way?

Only because I still had beer & cigs left when I decided to do this.  If I'd been quitting for a long time, I would've gotten rid of 'em first, but I should have enough willpower to lay off for a few days...hopefully.

Made it through last night OK, even while watching the game and playing online poker, both of which make me drink & smoke.  Had to have a cig just now at work, but only because I had to do something really hard & I think better while smoking.  For fuck's sake, I just had to do algebra for the first time in many years, so I'm entitled to 1 smoke.

The weed part is definitely the hardest, just like I expected.  I was craving a bowl at lunch so bad today.  2 more days and 265 miles 'til :bong: :spliff: :stoned:

I think it's possible to stop smoking gradually like that, but you still have to get to the point where you're ready to cut off the cigs completely.  It may be psychologically, as well as physically, easier to taper down instead of going cold turkey.  It's more of a habit for me than a physical addiction to nicotine, so I'm not sure about withdrawals and other physical effects.  Good luck if you decide to quit.

I've been thinking about that - that if I can not smoke for a few days, I should be able to quit completely. Problem is, the guy I work for smokes and so do all of my friends. I barely even know any non-smokers anymore, so it's kind of a lifestyle thing. I am going to at least try to cut down on the amount of smoking I do when I'm by myself - no good excuse then.

Well, I made it to today at least, but I bought a pack & smoked a few cigs already.  That's fine 'cause my goal was to get to Friday after work when I get on the road & I came pretty close.  It's been a stressful day at work (see my other thread about the company going to shit) and I tend to smoke when that happens.

When I get there tonight, I'm gonna get so fucked up! :bong:  Plus, I found out my boys might have some shrooms and maybe even some oxys.  Fuck yeah!!
