Cross species spore interference.
    #27720493 - 04/04/22 06:54 AM (2 years, 1 month ago)

I have been using a 2x4x8 grow tent for fruiting.

My most recent fruiting includes a psilocybe species as well as a ganoderma sessil.

I am still learning quite a lot, but my understanding this far is that one of the things that signals to the mushroom mycelium to end production of fruiting bodies is a hormone present in the spores.

When spores interact with the mycelium it tells the mycelium it's lifecycle has been a successful one and that is job is done.

Well I had a profoundly modest yield of off about 2lbs of psilocybe spawn (only about a 6 dried gram yield) but the mushrooms in question are hilariously potent (face completely melted off at only a 2g dose). Now I am noticing and am fearful. It would seem that as the ganoderma fruits begin to drop their spores, which obviously is quite a lot. The psilocybe becomes less and less active.

So, did the spores from the ganoderma cause an issue with the psilocybe?

Mmm. It's possible. I don't grow cubensis etc with my gourmets. Completely different building etc. But I DO grow multiple varieties of gourmets together and I can't say that when a Oyster drops spore, it effects the rest. There could be other issues. (Most likely)... My cubensis spews spore everywhere sometimes when I can't get to them right away. If I go for a second flush, they go on about life like nothing happened. This is the most fascinating hobby I've had in a while. I love the problem solving side of it even. I'm almost willing to bet it was the culture though. I'm probably wrong. But I'm trying.

My interpretation of the experience: your shrooms were normal but you had a low tolerance. Now you've used them for a long time and they aren't as strong as before.

Wait two weeks and start again.

Or just grow enough to have some everyday, if you wish.

2lbs of spawn to produce 60g wet mushrooms talks to your genetics and or conditions.

Either you have built up a tolerance or your genetics are not good based on your diminishing yield and low potency.

But that's an assumption.

I don't understand what I said that made people think I am worried about potency.

Off a similar cake I got closer to 160 grams of fresh cubenses and am simply concerned about my lack of understanding about the hormonal interplay between spore and mycelium.

I've Tripped like hundreds of times. I have a very good understanding of how tolerance works thank you guys for understanding.
