I used a dehydrator on 70degrees for two hours but pretty sure there are other methods if you don't have one. Maybe just pop it in the oven on 70 degrees with the door ajar a little? Google or somebody else on here would probs know better than I though...

You want them cracker dry before you put them in a jar. Food dehydrators used to be pretty cheap on amazon and they work really well for this purpose.  Otherwise, put them in front of a fan until they are cracker dry. Then store them in a sealed jar with the silica packs.

Voomsi - did you do anything special to dry them out? I was thinking of just putting mine in a jar (maybe with a silica gel pack) until ready for consumption.

I put mine on a window screen in front of a fan. Or you can use a dehydrator. If it’s really humid where you’re at you may have problems with just the fan. They should be cracker dry when you put them in a jar. If you just put them in a jar with desiccant they’ll probably spoil.

Honestly there are a few ways to dry mushrooms but a dehydrator is far and away the best, easiest and most reliable. Saves you lots of time, hassle and failure - it's not cool going to eat your harvest only to find them mouldy!

They often come up second hand, or a cheap new one I think is around $50 and is perfectly adequate. Well worth the investment.

Season is in full swing in the south, some absolutely beautifully  prime specimens in these pics. Multiple phenos from one location, from banana yellow to caramel.

Favourite flush I’ve ever found:

Other pics from the walk today:

Wow, absolutely beautiful. I'm very excited for this season, with the recent rain & cold, we should be well underway! About what elevation were these found at?

I've checked some of my local spots at about 350m, nothing yet, but it's still only early!

Always nice to see that they were left, hopefully your efforts are rewarded ten fold in the weeks to come!

I barely trip nowadays I just find it rewarding to be out within nature, taking pics of these fantastic little buggers! Around about 500-650m elevation, cheers!

Newbie here, so be patient with me, but I've walked past these types as I am sure I did a spore print which didn't come out blue/black/purple (from memory they were rusty brown prints). And the lamella were brown?

Are they definitely psychoactive?

Without knowing how good you are at identifying "these types", it is hard to say.

The picture is definitely Psilocybe subaeruginosa. I'd guess that your rusty brown prints were definitely not.

Wow, ok, I'll definitely be inspecting the ones that look like this closer next time.  thanks.

Do these have a white lamella or more orange/brown colour?

Galerinas are common in Tassie, grow in the same habitat - and from the top at least, are lookalikes to P. Subs... They have rusty brown lamella and spores - they're deadly though, so not one to mess around with.

They become easy to tell apart when you have had some practice... Just make sure you are positively IDing any finds on here on the main ID forum to avoid death! :mushroom2:

Subs usually have brown lamella, but I've seen some creamy white as well, and some almost grey.

Thanks @Nearwildheaven for the info, much appreciated.
Yes, it must be the Galerinas I keep seeing.

I've been doing spore prints on everything new I've found. Only one blue/purple so far, (which I ID'ed here to confirm as well).

I clocked up about 12000 steps at an elevation of 500m in southern Tas today and came home empty handed. How good is exercise though? 😂

So I had some Subs pop up in my lawn this week, pretty much at sea level    Along with these babies.. Honestly, I've never been interested in prepping them to ingest, but am curious now that they are in my driveway!

This is now the fourth house that I've either lived or stayed in that has had P.Subs growing in the garden. Last year after a relocation to NSW, I found them 5 metres from my front door just as I was down to my last microdose - it felt like a mushroomy miracle! I gathered more from that property in a week than I had all previous winter in southern Tassie.

I'm so glad that these guys seem to find me wherever I go! I feel very lucky that my medicine comes to me.

Found more :mushroom2::mushroom2: in the garden today... There are quite a few woodchip beds, and they seem to have found some cool rock-cave hangouts in the mulch that has fallen into the crevices of the rock wall beneath.

Certainly has made COVID isolation slightly more interesting!

Also, found some lookalikes that I've never seen before...

2 Nearwildheaven

You should dry them at 35-45 degrees in a dehydrator until they are cracker dry. At this temperature, they will keep all useful properties (if you are interested to improve your health). If it's just for recreation purposes you can up the temperature to 60-70. Then in both cases you must store them in a dry place for 2 months. Never eat them raw, they become magic and ready to consume only after this drying process.
