BIOCHAR - Has there been experimentation regarding adding charcoal to substrates to increase yield?

I just made a Biochar thread in The Pub thats fully self explanatory, and I wonder whether this has been sufficiently experimented with in mu/shroom cultivation.

1gr of charcoal has 9000 sq ft of surface area.

That's a LOT of potential for mycelia to grow and absorb nutrients.

Hello,

I have tried it a couple times in some substrate.  I think I used like 1/2 - 1 cup per 5 lb bag.  I did not notice any substantial difference in growth.  But I was curious too.

There has been some info that charcoal could help fruiting... Used it when fruited SRA indoors but it was one experiment so I don't know whether it had any influence the result...
