Quick reply now defaults to first post

Is this on purpose? Historically it always defaulted to the last post in a thread. Could we maybe get an account setting to chose between one or the other?

I knew Ythan fixed the bug (because I was the one who reported it, #27684565), but I did not know that he also made first post the default! Now that's progress! It makes so much more sense, because most people do not specify which post they're replying to and usually a post is in reply to the first post, not the last!
But more importantly, we should not be forced to reply to specific posts and that's why I recently commissioned Ythan to make a mod that literally destroys the reply-to feature!

Re: Suggestion to amend reply-to function
As you can see, title, date, and time are also eliminated from the header, but this is a work-in-progress, so hopefully we'll have a complete version for people who want to browse a clean looking forum.
I have furthermore suggested a hybrid between the elimination mod and the default that would allow only intentional replies made by people who know how to use the feature to be visible. I think this could easily be accomplished by first hiding the built-in [Re:] replies that obsessively stick themselves on every single post; and then replacing them with new ones that are only generated when specified. The default posting mode will be a restricted one, where, for example, a little lock icon is positioned next to every 'Reply' link and the Quick Reply drop-down menu. In order to use the replies, you simply have to click the locks first to unlock them; however, the default, unrestricted reply will be an open reply, which will not generate the new [Re:] text; and since the old text will be permanently hidden, any posts that were made without unlocking and specifying a reply will not appear to be in reply to anyone. Of course, this restriced mode could be reverted to the original configuration in Settings for Shroomery veterans who know how to use the Reply features. Essentially, what I'm describing is switching from the current mode, which can be described as byproduct mode, to a new mode, which can be described as specific mode. Reply indicators will only be visible when the user specifies that he is replying to a specific post by either unlocking the relevant reply or, of course, quoting the post (which will be unrestricted in both modes). Default replies will not be cluttered up with often misleading [Re:] text and will just be assumed to be in reply to the first post.
