I live in middle ga and I have been trouble finding fields of magic mushrooms. Could you please tell me where I could go to pick these. Is their a specific location or is it more just luck of the draw?

Your best bet would be to hunt habitats for Ps. caerulescens.  Here is a good place to start.

this is what ur looking for partner ; )
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23527776#23527776
depending on how south, you also may try looking for psilocybe cubensis and certain panaeolous species. make sure to get them identified first though! even if ur 100% sure theyre the ones.
...And fields might be kind of a high expectation (i wish i could find them too though lol) especially since my first "microscopy" endeavor, although extremely close to finishing, developed a little green patch on the substrate surface so no fruits this time :facepalm3:

Cook 👩🍳 in a wad of butter in frypan
Plus make certain you have true morels, not lookalikes

Man, I’d love to find some morels. The ovoid spots I’ve got might mean I’m in the right neighborhood.

Few finds from this week:

Caerulescens are far more ubiquitous to our area than the distribution map shows.  More so in recently distributed well watered/drainage areas where vegetation is starting to take over.  Their season is typically May-Nov.  Ovoids are popping near creeks and rivers right now up until around June.  If you are near middle GA or more south, then cow/horse pastures should be investigated as well..

for ovoids, if the creek bank is too high for it to flood over should i move somewhere where the ground is closer to the water? alot of the creeks around me have banks like 10 feet above the actual creek) they still have flat flood lands but its definitely not the creek overflowing onto them

I think your habitat seems right. My patches aren’t in spots where the creek rises and overflows (maybe in some extreme weather events). It does flood from heavy rain - just from being a low laying area near a creek. You know, gravity and such. I’d say It’s probably 10 feet or so above the water at normal flow. Steep banks at the stream but surrounded by flat-ish floodplain. Plenty of box elder, creeping Charlie, etc.

In y'alls opinion, what's easier to find patches for? Ovoids or Caerulescens? I had 0 luck with ovoids last year, but good results with Caes,so I'll likely be sitting out the ovoid season

I’ve been throwing stem butts and any attached colonized wood into my wood chip pile. Today I found this:

Our backyard looks to be prime location but i guess im missing something. 2022 is going to be an entirely new year for me for many reasons. need em!

Are Weili just ovoideocystidiata?
