Hi, I just harvested these two cakes, unfortunately I saw the blue fuzz on the back of one of them only after harvesting. What do you think, should I toss the fruits of the cakes?

The white pins also look weird to me, what are you saying?

Those cakes have been started a long time ago, I was already going to toss them but gave it a try with the water tub tek. You can see the story of those here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27711494/vc/1#27711494

I would only eat tiny amounts fresh from the first cake, if at all. Someone said to me, that he dont like the fresh experience, only the dry. And only tiny amounts of the dried version I would do, too. Some material should be tossed for sure. I mean, I did 1,2 gram shrimpled dried not beautiful mushrooms the night. And it was filthy man. I made a tea out of it and drank currant juice before ingesting the tea. I ate only some fruit and vegetables yesterday and a tiny amount of cacao chocolate hours before. In the end its your choice what to do of course. Theres beauty but pathology also I think, but thats a general thing I guess. Ill write a report first time in english

Pictures can be tricky, but I don't see anything to be too concerned about here.

The blue looks like bruising to me.

I personally would pick everything on those cakes, then rehydrate them and go for a second round. And I'd only discard those tiny white immature fruit if they felt squishy, smelled off, or looked rotten on the inside. All of the more mature fruit looks fine to me. I do pull all my mushrooms apart to inspect the interior, though, and discard any individual fruits if they show even a hint of rot.

My general rule of thumb now is to discard any fruit coming from a tub with pathogenic spores that would rub off onto my finger if I touched them (usually just green trichoderma spores, but there are plenty of other colors/options.) That's also my hard line for dumping the tub and sanitizing it for the next round. I don't do PF cakes at the moment, but I'd use the same rule if I did. However, my rationale is all about not spreading contaminant spores around my space when the fruits are in the dehydrator. 9 times out of 10, the fruits that managed to come through are fine to eat. I just don't want to risk fucking up my space with invisible spores for a few extra grams of yield.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable. The fruit were in the drier over night, the white ones were separated and now in dry state they look okay. - Im gonna check the inner parts.

Hello guys,

I am wondering about my mushroom growkits(Colombian and McKennaii from Avalon). After 5 days a bright white aerial mycelium appeared on the surface of the substrate.
Now there passed already 17 days(from beginning) and there are still no mushrooms apearing.
The white stuff on the substrate doesn't changed or growed a lot. Color still white.
Shall I still wait or maybe try anything else? Does it need maybe more aire?

Thanks for your support and help!

Unfortunately, it can be a bit tough to get help on this forum when working with a growkit. I'm not really sure if what you have is mycelium or mold there, but it might be cobweb. Try again later maybe with some more close-up pictures.

And check this thread, search it for "cobweb" and compare: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231150#17231150

You're probably observing more over time than is coming through in the pictures, so I'm sure you're picking up on an issue there. But to my eyes, those pictures all look fine.

It does look to me like you've got A LOT of pinning going on. If that culture were in a shoebox or monotub it would probably be going apeshit. But since there's a limit to how much one cake can support, I'm guessing that you're just watching those pins start to abort. (Very common in PF cakes) But that's just a guess.

Mold/Rot?? What should i do? [Re: B Traven]
    #27715157 - 03/31/22 09:03 AM (1 year, 11 months ago)

Hello this is my first grow and so far i have realised what mistakes I've made (one being that i haven't put holes at the bottom on my sgfc) however i have come into an issue and im not sure id its because of the lack of airflow that caused this or it would be me over misting as on the 2 cakes i have in the chamber I've spotted mold or a rot like substance that have appeared on them as in the pictures. I was Wondering if someone could shed some light on this and what i could/SHOULD do.
Some extra info: they have been in the sgfc for about their 3rd day now and ive only spotted it today
Thanks for ya time

Hi,

you it can also eat ;-)

In any case, it is often recommended to test unknown MSS or LC on agar, then you will know about their quality.

In any case, you have to ask yourself why your fruity cakes go moldy, that has nothing to do with the quality of the syringe.
Moldy cultures at vaccination sites, on the other hand, already indicate contaminated vaccine solutions!

What's does everyone think of this any contams? Or are these nice knots or blobs coming in? Even though I've done my research I'm still finding myself questioning my stuff a little
