Agar powder vs gelatin

So I have no experience at all with agar powder. Or agar work even zero. I've read lots of different ways to make agar malt dextrose and agar powder any other nutrients make agar. Well I had flashbacks to high school biology class. We made Petrie dishes with and nutrient base , I can't remember what, and gelatin for making jams and jellies. Question can you make dishes this way or do you still need agar powder? Logically to me it would work but I don't understand enough about mycelium to know and I want to start a tried and true way this just answers some questions in my mind. Thanks again for your support and knowledge.

Mycelium(and most bacteria) makes enzymes(protease, gelatinase) that liquify gelatin quite fast.

In addition to mycelium eating through and liquifying the gelatin, agar has a much higher melting temperature. Agar melts at 70-80°C while gelatin melts already around 30°C. The numbers are not 100% correct, but you get the idea.

Ok I kind of figured but I had a flashback to high school something stuck. I figured there was a reason why it was never mentioned but had to ask. Thank you all agar is the way to go!
