Anyone have experience shipping spores overseas? I'm sending a handful to someone and don't want the envelope to get lost so I thought I would use one of those bubblewrap envelopes and send them as a package instead of a letter. The problem is that I need to fill out a customs form to ship it.
Basically the customs form needs the full name/address of sender and recipient as well as a declaration of what is in the package. It seems like I might get sweated if I use a fake address and I'm not sure what I should declare a baggie of swabs and foil to be
Any tips or advice is appreciated

Nah no customs form required. Assuming its under 28g and less than ¼" thick, it ships as a standard letter, but requires extra postage. I just send like a domestic letter, but use three stamps or a global postage stamp
I never have trouble with international letters getting lost unless the address provided is questionable

Yeah I’ve sent them all over in the regular mail.
Spores aren’t really a big deal but if I’m feeling shifty I’ll use the address of an apartment complex nearby as the return.

I've sent spores international with varying results, but this person requested it to be packaged either in a padded envelope/small box, which maybe is what the post office says would require a customs slip
I'll just talk to person and see what they say because this customs form is weirding me out. I'll post a picture of the form in a little bit and see what anyone things. It's a very simple form, I just would prefer not use my name/address or declare 'this package contains spores' lol

I sent a small flat rate recently to Europe, was a plate and some swabs. Filled out the shipping label and customs form on usps website very straightforward. Under contents I just put "cotton swabs" dont overthink it.

Fuck em. They can take what you’re willing to send. If you don’t wanna accept a regular envelope for free, then fuck em. That’s my take though

I completely agree with you, except for in this situation. They requested spores be sent this way first. Then I agreed to help. It's not like I offered free spores then they asked for the padded envelope/box, so I kinda brought this on myself. Plus it's like 8 swab sets so it's already exceeding a standard envelope anyway.
Otherwise, I'm with you. Fuck em!

You shouldn't have an issue, I have to send international parcels to you degenerates all the time, just takes an eternity to get there.
I've been super demotivated to do any myco work recently, got my ass in gear last night and decided to do some transfers.
Apeu, tat, pearly gates, nat, mvp plate pins transferred. Also managed to get some old PR transferred, long ape, pe7 and hot some Jack frost to agar.

I'm going to try my hand at LC Cloning. I'm using this guide as the way: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5874305/fpart/1/vc/1
One question, when the biopsy is taken by the needle piercing through the stem of the shroom, the syringe already has a few mls of liquid in it to be released (along with the stem material) into the jar of LC, right? Is this liquid taken from the jar of LC before the biopsy procedure?
The author doesn't mention this. I assume that's the way it works.
Thanks

Prep your syringes before hand by pcing them with water inside already. You poke and release the sterile water into the lc.

Personally I wouldn't go straight mushroom tissue to LC, you should really make sure it's clean on agar first.

Definitely gotta agree with you there forrester, I tired tissue to LC and was a straight fail. Put some on agar did a few transfers then threw some of those into LC and it was liquid gold after💯🔥

I plan to birth some PEs this weekend. Is it true they do best with a casing layer? When should I time the casing? Any pitfalls/concerns I should be aware of when casing?

A firmly leveled/thick top layer performs just as well ime. Anything less than 1" CV, or if you don't firmly compress it with a trowel it will lead to blobs.
Give it a go, it works wonders especially with large runs of PE.
PE is notorious for blobbing, which is why most people use a casing. p9 has a whole pseudocasing thread, but this quote sums it up pretty succinctly. i had good success with my PE tubs by doing exactly what he described. no need to fuck around with casing at all outside of a firmly compressed top layer at spawn

I still use a casing. 99% of the time I find they do need something. P9 has a tek of using a super thick top layer instead. I suggest to try both. Should be done around 7-10 days when surface is almost fully colonized. I used to be an advocate of jiffy from the bag. Sadly it ruined a bunch of stuff last time and have now gone to proper casings with pasteurization.

With apes, I nod to above posters, which outline whats been popular in my review for a long time: Heavy thick top casing for PE varietes. Nada blobs with APEs for me
