Side pinning

I'm using bods unmodded tub tek, no liner, and I have crap loads of side pins.
My question is how do I prevent this, and what is the best way to go about harvesting all of the side pins?

I agree That’s exactly what the liner is there for

Subs shrink no matter how tight you pack them. When they shrink this creates a perfect microclimate for growing shrooms.
To stop this I use a liner like suggested above. It clings to the sub completely eliminating the side/bottom pins.
Good luck! Most of them will come up fine and you will be able to use them.

How is your liner setup? Got pictures?
I use a black trash bag and when the sub shrinks the trash bag clings to it and travels with it.
It is really only useful through the first flush for preventing side pins
If you want to look at the sub in the tub doing it's thing you could get clear scent free trash bags.

The tek doesn't call for a liner, and iterates side pins shouldn't be an issue.

The "tek" is a bit off. And yes. Always use a liner. There's a reason why every single person so far has told to to use one. They're not telling you this just to see their reply to your extremely basic and years ago solved question....

If you are getting more side pins than you are normal top pins then you gotta work on dialing in your surface conditions

you definitely don’t always have to use a liner. they are helpful for sure, & a lot of people like them, but it’s not strictly necessary to prevent side pins

this grow had no liner, i have plenty of other pics of subs covered with pins/mushrooms with very little to no side pinning. to be clear liners can & do help & i’m not saying they aren’t useful but i’ve also gotten side pinning while using liners. i’ve found that compacting the sub by pressing down really firmly on it at spawn can help with side pinning issues. you may still get some here & there, especially on a second flush, but i’ve had great success preventing them with very firmly pressing down the sub using a book/flat surface. also, keeping surface conditions on point goes a long way for encouraging a pin set on the surface. if the surface dries out, the myc will tend to fruit where it’s more humid (the sides of the tub). the surface of your sub looks a bit weird too so i’d venture to guess maybe a little bit else is going on in there, but i’m not super certain on that front.
edit: forgot to mention harvesting. just gently lift the sub out of the tub & do your best to not destroy it. it can be kinda a bitch, especially getting the bottom pins

Thank you for the detailed and polite response. I did have an issue with my tub getting too dry due to the room being too hot. With that resolved I'm hoping these next tubs come out better. I pressed down the sub firmly like you suggested so I'll wait and see if that makes a difference.
This is my first go at bulk, and first time getting back into it in a few years so it's been a learning experience. Thanks for the advice.

I did have an issue with the tub drying out, I got some bad advice on room temp and had it way too hot. I'm assuming it's the result of a dry surface, I have 2 new tubs going so I'll see if it makes a difference. I'm still dialing things in, given these are my first 2 I've done.

anytime!! there’s almost never any reason to be rude. glad i could help (: the sub drying out was most likely the cause for most of the issue. even a liner won’t do much to help if your surface conditions get too dry. keeping the top moist is gonna give you better results, liner or not. pressing it down rather firmly should help substantially along side making sure it doesn’t dry out. it always takes a few bulk grows before you get it properly
