Coprinellus vs. Penicillium: Timelapse of a Mystery Purple Mushroom Metabolite 2

I recently observed that when a Coprinellus sp. encounters a competing organism, it produces a purple pigmented metabolite. In my experimentation, this pigment is not produced when Coprinellus grows by itself to maturity.
To my knowledge, there is nothing in the literature that describes the chemical make-up of this metabolite, it's purpose or the genes involved in its expression. It does seem to do a really good job at keeping competing organisms at-bay so I do wonder about it's general antifungal capabilities.
I'm looking forward to diving into learning how to characterize this phenomena in the near future.

Damn what a sick fuckin video. Great editing and production.
Really interesting and eerie stuff. Did you inoculate penicillium into the dish or was it an accident? It really fills the plate out.

I grew out the Coprinellus for a few days since it's slower growing and then created a dilution of the Penicillium in water and swabbed it around the perimeter.
The Penicillium strain is likely Penicillium melanoconidium, which I also discovered is resistant to the antifungal fluconazole.
Here're the observations and sequences for each organism: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/108187894 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/108265795
