Absinthe question
    #2768586 - 06/06/04 12:00 PM (17 years, 10 days ago)

I've been really wanting to try absinthe.  I have done a little research on it and it seems as if the absolute best on the market that I have found comes from "The Green Fairy".  See this page and look at the first item.  It seems to be the highest quality available out there.  Highest thujone content, etc.  But I know little or nothing about it and I find it hard to justify spending $135 on a bottle!!

However, I might do it just for the experience.  But I want to know if this is just a rip-off or if this is truly a high-quality product.  I have heard good things about it, but you know how it goes.  Personal testimonials aren't always everything they are cracked up to be.  Does anyone have experience with absinthe (I know, stupid question to ask here  :smirk: ) and what reccomendations do you have.

Your're probably right.  I just spend 95% of my time in the pub and I forget there are other forums.

I'll cross post over there...

sounds very interesting, i wouldn't mind trying it, 135 bucks a bottle is really expensive though.

Make sure you have a good way to filter out sediment before you begin using a kit. My next kit will be used and filtered using a 1L seperatory funnel at the end.

How would you use a seperatory funnel to filter out solids? They would all get stuck in the stock cock at the bottom and clog things up.

A buchner funnel would work better. Even better yet a simple cone shaped funnel from the store with a rolled up piece of toilet paper in the stem and possibly an solvent (vodka, rum, everclear) wetted fluted piece of funnel paper.
