Artemisia ludoviciana

Artemisia ludoviciana (white sage/mugwort) is not the same as true white sage (salvia apiana) or true mugwort (artemisia vulgaris). it is a native species to my area. It does not have much pharmacological action that will interest you guys, but it is a rather sacred plant. It is very aromatic and smells nearly identical to Salvia apiana (smudging sage/white sage). You can dry it out and it will keep its scent for years. I tie it in bundles, dry it out, and use it as a smudging herb.

I believe it is sacred to the Ojibwa but i'll have to double check. It is used as smudge.

"To fill (an orchard or another planted area) with dense smoke from a smudge pot in order to prevent damage from insects or frost. "

In their case to cleanse an area of evil energy.
