Don’t say gay

Florida is set to approve some new legislation in regards to its education. What do you think? Should schools be allowed to have instruction on sex and gender from kindergarten to 3rd grade?
A lot of discussion about education is about local needs. Is this an appropriate issue for a state government to decide, or should it be up to individual communities?
Quote:
Florida’s Republican-dominated legislature passed a bill Tuesday to forbid instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, rejecting a wave of criticism from Democrats that it marginalizes LGBTQ people.

I support the concept behind the bill.

This decision should be left up to local communities.

This decision should be standardized across the state.

Florida needs statewide rent control and free public housing.
Don’t say poor.

Don't say gay.
As for the topic, I have zero idea what they teach kids about gender/sexuality in elementary schools. If I saw the actual lesson plan it'd be a lot easier to have opinion, I'm guessing most of the conservative backlash is people thinking that their kids getting exposed to the existence of the gay and trans will put ideas in their head or something dumb. They're worried that they'll have to shell out the dough for conversion camp down the line and that the other parents on the golf course will look down on them for bringing a gay into God's earth.

"Withholding information to keep people from making informed choices."
I can see why this is a modern republican proposal.
Keeping people ignorant comes back in so many ways in their tactics.

I just don't think that's an appropriate topic for a 3rd grader, let alone kids younger than that. We weren't taught about sexuality at all at that age and I still turned out fine.
If anything we should be teaching kids about acceptance and empathy... and then teach them about that stuff just a little later in school life imo.

I remember Asante talking positively to someone about how god/the universe took them out of the breeding pool for a reason. If he believes half the shit he says then I don't know why he'd even try having an opinion on how best to raise a kid.
It is absolutely inappropriate and unnecessary to engage wih little kids about sex. Anyone who says this is okay probably thought Cuties was no big deal
Most frustratingly I always find that in these conversations it always boils down to something like

As evidenced by this whole "Don't say gay" shit that a bunch of what I'm assuming are blue haired screaming lesbians made up so they don't get fired. It's just bullshit to get the woke crowd riled up for some cause only the "mentally diminished" care about.

I'm not sure what the goal is other than party-line differentiation. The policies which impact the majority are largely the same between parties so the stuff that targets minority populations gets blown up in disproportionate ways.
That's my stance. It seems stupid (to me), misleading, and effective at allowing corruption to flourish in the political circus.

That's kind of what sex ed for K-3 consists of. Basic bodily autonomy, the fact that it's okay to not want to be touched, that sort of thing.
Of course Republicans don't want kids to think it's okay to say no to unwanted touching.
Edit: this is also a great example of the propaganda versus reality situation which took place with CRT.

People die because of exposure in the neighborhood I live in, in Florida, because they are unhoused. They do not have convenient access to clean water and can only shower during short windows of time at the Y.
The deaths happen about once a month.

This has nothing to do with politics for me; my kids don't need to be taught about the all the new non-biological genders or sexuality at that fucking age. Of fucking course they need to be taught not to let anyone touch them inappropriately....my wife and I teach them that at home. And if someone ever did I'll be doing life.
Your something fucking else dude...fuck you

Children in Florida aren’t developing properly because they live in food deserts. As a result of malnutrition they will never reach their cognitive potential are are likely to end up in prison, be raped and tortured, and die from suicide and other mental health decencies.

funny how people can't stay on topic...
this law wont let public school teachers talk to CHILDREN ages 5-7 about sex... which is good because you dont want sexual predators disguised as teachers grooming your children and giving them sexual identity issues.
i support it. it's sad that we are where we are with this insane shit.

So, you think kids should be taught about consent and inappropriate touching, but say "fuck you" to me when I say that kids should be allowed to learn about consent and inappropriate touching.
Okay buddy.

Says nothing about sex. Just bans conversations about sexual identity. So I guess calling a second grade boy a "boy" might technically be illegal under this bill, as that would be a discussion of sexual identity.
Matter of fact, under the wording of this bill, I think any acknowledgement of gender could theoretically be criminalized.
I also note that you're subscribing to the Qanon tactic of calling anyone that disagrees with you a pedo. Classy.

Children are dying from lack of housing nutrition and health care. This entire bill is off topic. Opposition to this bill is off topic. This thread is off topic.
All off topics are to be redirected to economic justice which is the only on topic.

Florida is literally turning down free federal money to provide people with expanded access to food, housing, and healthcare. So it won't happen, don't worry.
