I have one that looks similar to that in size and style, from Excalibur. Cost was a little bit more but it has digital controls, dual temp zones, timers etc. one of the best purchases I have made. Makes dehydrating an after-thought. Works fast. Doesn’t break. And I use it for other things too like making my own backpacking meals. I’ll make spaghetti sauce and then turn it into a fruit-rollup kind of thing that just needs water to rehydrate at camp. Chili mac, bbq chicken tacos, dried fruit. Next to my flow hood, it’s my fav tool.

When you are in a real mushroom farm that is under health and fire safety regulations and inspections, typically all equipment has to be NSF certified and it's real expensive.
That thing even at $449 isnt but check this out

I've been running this one for a while, I got it back when it was $99. Inflation sure is fun. About half the capacity as the $450 one (750 sq in) and doesn't get quite as hot, so longer cycle, but it is a lot more convenient and consistent than my old Presto (bastardized with a cardboard tube to increase capacity) They are cracker dry in about 12-24 hours depending on size. I typically get 100g dry in a run, so starting weight around 1kg wet for my machine's typical capacity. It hit a good price:performance:convenience point for me.

i have to start working 'off-site' and the 160 L Cabelas can only be set for 10 hours according to their product support. The Tribest, while only 15 sq ft [2160 sq inches,] can be set for 99 hours and two heat levels. So the fucker won't turn off till I get back to the shop.

Yeah it'd be cool if you could go up to say 48hr on those 160L's though.. Anyone here ever freeze dry cubes? Or even gourmets, for that matter.

Why? It's not like you're going on vacation, just reset the timer if necessary.

There's been one guy on here with some cool pics and experimenting with a true freeze dried machine. Was about a year ago or so.
It's pretty small scale and expensive but really cool. Larger capacity is big bucks as far as I can tell.

Says who? Lol. It'd just be nice, the 24 hour limit feels a little tight and it'd be a costless upgrade for the manufacturer, presumably.

Someone told me recently they freeze dried chantrelles and the flavor was enhanced greatly. Got me thinking about trying out some other varieties to see how they taste, if I can find a machine to rent or borrow to experiment with. I had no idea you could preserve shrooms like that; they come out looking like they were just picked.

I just assumed that you would see the potential hazard involved in leaving an appliance of this kind running in your home while you were away.
To each their own.
I've used my cabela frequently, it's very nice. I think that the time limit is a safety feature, but I could be wrong.
