Juxter?

Greetings from San Francisco, friends.

My friend and I are cultivating the specimens I brought back. multiple strains of subs, weraroa, secos, tassies, angulospora, and hopefully an orini.

4 of the 6 NZ Giant Centipedes survived the transit home and are doing well. Will update 5 years post once I introduce their children to an isolated island with suitable climate.

I dream of flying through the aotearoa forests almost every night.
But I had to come home to have titanium plating removed from my left hip, and see my dog die. My visa remains active to NZ but I doubt I will return this season.

As an interesting side note, stuntzii and ovoideocystidiata have started appearing in pot plants in california at an exponential rate.

So to anyone else pondering the phenomenon, ask why werent they there before if its natural transmission?

I suspect it possible that there are operators responsible for all the pot plant psilocybes worldwide.

PM me if you want Allenii spore prints but sending them is long term goal.

Plenty of pines and woodchip piles around to scout I'd imagine.  Those are the sort of places I'm intending to look in the Eastern BoP.  I'll probably start looking after this storm hits.

I'd be keen to know if anyone else in this region starts finding them.

@juxter: NZ has a proud history of introducing foreign plants and animals. In our experience it almost always works out well.
@homeless: best rain tek is to have cannabis plants that you want to harvest in the build up to mushroom season. This way God makes it humid with lots of rain to fuck with your cannabis which then creates perfect conditions for mushrooms.

Full proof rain tek. Wait for a sunny day with no clouds in sight, hang your washing out.

If you are after extra powerful rain tek, after you hang your washing on the line go to the beach and lock your keys in the car.

Re: Urban Foraging

Start in the city centre, paying attention to all instances of public landscaping involving woodchips/bark/flax..

Methodically, work your way outwards towards the city fringe, taking in any parks/reserves/etc..

Personally, I find bush/forest foraging most rewarding (psychically).. but if you don't care about the metaphysics of it all, the effort-to-reward ration of urban hunting is very good.

Post any finds on Shroomery for identification.

Good luck, bro,

HS

I beleive the beech forests near rotorua are really good for weraroa and maybe others. In the town I was looking at this one government plot where theyve tested dozens of species of pine for lumber tree. There might even be chips out there. It was near DOC and the redwoods.

The pine they chose was from california, as I have said before. DOC has signs explaining why they chose to introduce this pine.

Oh yeah and about introducing species, have you considered that humans are an animal and a natural form of transport, and also that there is also a massive invasive species problem in CA, in NZ, and worldwide, but if humans introduce the species we want that might just be better than random ones.

Many probably read this but it is thought that the species Allenii might have only arisen in the past couple hundred years and could be derived from subs, no big surprise.

Well https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ecy.2068 proves that when a species invades its genome increases in size.

In other words maybe Allenii evolved to be even more invasive than subs. So theoretically, Allenii sent back to New Zealand or to another country would potentially produce an exponentially more invasive species.

Perhaps iin another hundred years Ovoideocystidiata will evolve into a new species from invading new territories.

And all of these psilocybe have a leg up in evolution because of us humans, compared with ones we dont eat.

My side projects have been that I built a massive patch of allenii and cyanescens in some eucalyptus down south of San Fran, with fog. Then recently Ive just started working on patches in eucalyptus north of the golden gate, where I live. These are both 500 miles south of the natural range of the psilocybe. If they continue to survive there, without human help its some real scientific data.

Yeah, I have thought a lot about introducing new mushroom species to NZ. I personally am not very fond of releasing new organisms into the environment as there is a big risk of them being a pest. It's interesting that there is evidence that the act of placing them in a new environment actually increases their genetic diversity and makes them more invasive.

I would hope introducing a species that is closely related to an existing local species would be less problematic. But there is always the possibility they will out compete the native species and displace it. Maybe they would interbreed and create something new for better or worse.

I guess time will tell what happens with these mushroom species. I hope we don't lose the beauty of some of the native fungi like weraroa.

NZ is done proud by her members here at the Shroomery..

Some serious mycologists, be they amateur or professional..

It is intimidating and exhilarating, both at once!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep my eye out for some psychoactive Seagulls this season.

I've been hitting up the ol red shed and Bunnings. Being sneaky. They never saw a thing.

The intense blue-staining is a dead giveaway, IMO.. but I'll wait for a TI to confirm.

There would likely be more competition, but golf courses are fantastic for our hobby.

Sorry if you already know this.

Edit:

And, given that P. subaeruginosa is going to be your bread and butter, you might also scour semi industrial areas - their landscaping often involves a lot of woodchips.

Edit 2:

As regards the bush/forest. Over time, you will develop a sense for likely ground.

I don't know about NZ but in Norway where I live, golf courses are quite dangerous
given that any moment could be your last if a stray shot hits you in the head.
I've tried my luck a few times but I left quickly when all of a sudden there came a
few balls down too close for comfort.

Sunset to sunrise is the ideal time window for browsing golf courses, IMO.

In darkness, the flashlight feature on one's phone suffices to illuminate spots of interest.

Edit:

I like hunting at night.

Assuming, of course, that the owner of the golf course in question is amenable to our hobby.
