Praying
    #2768752 - 06/06/04 01:20 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

A question of faith and praying are related and there is no point arguing beliefs but rather understanding them. It is true that God does not talk back to us in speech or other forms of human communication but God can take many forms from different perspectives people build from their own essence of experiences.

Personally I pray. "You can make fun of me for praying but it gives me spirituality and the confidence to make my dreams a reality." When I pray I do not ask but rather thank and it helps me think things through when I conversate with the part of my brain that understands the truth clear and I also believe it helps me relieve stress.

I do not want to get into my beliefs and my own religion but I will end this thread by saying I look at all religions equally and take the beliefs I perceive as true and useful. My own perception of God takes one of not a being but rather life that exists. As humans we must look over our animal instincts and distinguish what makes us "special" in life that exists. An example that I can use relates back to when I was about 7 years old, my friends and I that day were throwing rocks at birds but we never hit any - (that changed when I bought a bb gun but that's not the point!!) Anyways I was alone in my front yard and I saw a bird flying so I grabbed a rock and chased the bird. The bird was in its youth and had a brocken wing and I was faced with the scenario to hit the bird point blank with a rock or and the force in my brain came over me that it was wrong. I thought about my future actions before throwing the rock and that is when I realized that we are different from the animals because we will reflect on our own decesions. Later on in life I found that human lives can be taken for justifiable causes.

I have had a prayer life of one kind or another since I was taught my first prayer at age five. I prayed in bed out of fear - mostly fear of the loss of parents (just normal abandonment anxiety) when I was about 7. For a couple of years I lapsed into carrying 'good luck charms' (talismans, actually in principle) when I was 8 or 9. I then became 'scientific' and materialistic until in my early college years, when there burgeoned a strange interest in magick (during the occult revival of the 70's). Practice of Ceremonial Magick which utilized Kabbalistic and Christian words and symbols, led me through Neoplatonism (after LSD, and becoming a philosophy major in college) to Christian mystical theology, the Initiation of Baptism, and a Masters degree in theology. Sometime between finishing my philosophy degree and beginning the theology degree, prayerlife reumed: Petitionary, Thanksgiving, Intercessory and Contemplative forms. I still ask, AND receive, give thanks daily, pray for others (though not often) and contemplation is my lifestyle. That's about it - age 5 to 50. I'm not gonna make fun of you for praying.

I won't make fun of you for praying, and I actually believe that we should stay in constant prayer, meaning constant communication with God. Who ever is the source of the Universe, which I believe is God.

Welcome to SandP.

much is not understood.
taking life is very serious too.

watching the much that is not understood
takes a lot of courage - call it what you will.

do you know the fool card in Tarot #0 - it is secretly the most religious icon in the deck.

precariously he is ballanced at the precipice, positive attitude - enigmatic.

sorry
http://www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/pkt/index.htm
all on line
but the printed book has more text and more cross references.
also less divination oriented.
the whole deck is a codex, i.e. codification of spiritual insights,
use as a divination tool is a bit less dignified, but can be handy.

here is the fool
