Outdoor Growing
    #2766984 - 06/05/04 07:44 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I am thinking, after reading a little bit, about making a small outside patch. I live in TX, so my days are going to be aournd 100 and nights like 70. It should be pretty humid. I have alot of shade tree's where i am planning on doing it. Is this even a good idea to try? or do you think it may be too hot? Any links to more outdoor teks would be very helpfull. Thx. -hydr0420

He was talking abotu in the ground, nice job though with your grow!

Yea outdoors in texas is perfect, Cubes even grow wild in parts of tex. There's no outdoor teks besided dig a hole mabey line it with preforated plastic (the black stuff put under rock gardens) and put some pearlite down first to make it more self contained to soyu wont get too many worms and it wont get to wet as long as you cover it when it rains excesivly for a few days.

You almost need to use grain, so just follow the WBS tek carefully and build a tub in a tub incubator and your set. Use lots of spawn, you can accieve this by either making allot of jars, or spawning a few jars onto finely chopped pasturized hay in ziplocks at a 1:5-1:10 ratio and using that as spawn. A higher numerical ratio means it will take longer to colonizethe bags but theres more in the end to spawn onto the plot, and the ratio goes the same for the plot. A 1:10 spawn ratio should be abotu 8-10 days to colonize and 1:5 about 4-6 days with tha hay. It should increase your volume of spawn 5-10x in about a week. With the plot make the straw manure ratio anywhere from 60-90%% hay by compresed volume.

yeah, i know they grow naturally, i have a friend who picks all the time. So, do like normal colonization of jars, then put then in the hole with the other stuff (verm + hay + spawn + COIR mabey??) and cover with more verm, and then just wait?
yes?
this sound slike fun =D
any suggestions on what strain to use? mabey one who has thick stalks t o endure the outside?

I gotta say burma... its just so aggressive when it pins and as you can see in my log you can get some thick stalky stems as well

I got lucky with my outdoor stuff....the dung I used originally had some flys but they weren't fungus gnats since there was no fungus and the flys have completely left now that the dung is pretty much fully colonized....and since its in bins slugs have not been a problem either

dont bother with coir or verm in the substrate. Make it just maunre straw and make a 3/4" thick coir/manure casing 75/25 and sprinkle some leaves or hay on top to act as a mulch and to give the pins a high humidity envornment.

I've already had the first flush actually....I didn't case it or put anything on....it got triggered into pinning from the cold nights I believe and flushed without being 100% colonized....but since its outdoors and manure theres no worry about contams..its being dunked for the 2nd flush as I type this
