Getting sawdust in your freshly squeezed caulking is annoying. Getting everything lined up was a challenge for me with little to no skills or budget but hey... It works! Thanks for leading the path guys.

Well it was fun. Now i need the garage space back. Anyone want to buy it?

Fantastic build.  My advice after 12 months a the first filter replacement is I ran it too high and didnt use a hand help vacuum cleaner to get grains out.  Instead I use a scalpel and every now and again I nicked it.  That and running it too high ment I needed to replace it too soon in my opinion.  It more than paid for itself in oyster grow box sales 3 times over alone so its not a big deal, just part of the learning curve...........  So I suggest running it as low as you can possibly get a away with.  Im trying 1/4 turn atm

Oh for sure, how did you get grains in it though? 😆
I've never had to clean it or anything.

I ran it as low as possible without getting contams purely because i didn't want to wake the neighbours next door.

Might be a stupid question (always used a sab for growing shrooms and had a 70% success rate for no contamination) but with a flow hood do you need to be in a super sterile air tight room?  Our bathroom had water damage that I repaired over the summer so I assume there’s probably some mold spores still around.  If bathroom is a bad choice for that reason would a big open room work? Those are my choices in my current living situation... either that or I purchase a utility trailer just for my mushroom cultivation work.  Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

You just need a room without a breeze.  As soon as the laminar flow is in place any work in that area should be clean as long as you dont take dust in with you to the stream......

Yes a clean room is better but a draft free room is still sufficient.

I really want to build a flow hood but the main thing that’s keeping me from starting is lack of tools.

I do have a miter saw but I imagine it’s useless for this project.

Can someone list a must have of tools.

You can get your wood cut at the local diy shop you buy it from and just cut 2 holes and screw it together.

Screwdrivers, glue, jigsaw, screws = minimum if you get the wood cut to size.

Otherwise you need a skill saw on top of this or hand saw but it wont look so good, oh and sandpaper.

Just for a little frame of reference, I've done flow work in all sorts of environments. One environment was a super super filthy trim shed that didn't seal out the outdoor well (super dusty area) and had to have the air conditioning running during my sessions. The flow still triumphed but ate up pre filters like a mother fucker.

Obviously, though, A nice clean and draft free room would be optimal.

I'm currently trying to build a flow hood but am having a hard time finding a 24x48 filter in the US. Do you think this is Covid related or am I just not looking hard enough? I've tried looking on eBay but I just don't trust the specs on the items. I have moderate wood working skills so construction is not an issue and I can get a fan, but the filter is delaying the whole process.

Anybody know where to get a 2x4 filter that's not Alibaba or someplace overseas?

Any help is appreciated.

Perfecti generally has them. But I'd probably go with an FFU from myers at this point. So much cheaper and plenty of folks use them with success. Also light and easy to move. I'll probably run my beast until she only grows green and then switch over. Maybe.

I'm also in the market but Myer's is out ATM.  Any idea where else these can be had for a similar price? His price is pretty great

FFUnits are rare in Europe. We just had a different setup with AC and stuff.

The most important tools i found were, the circular saw. Impact driver/power drill. A pencil, straight edge and measuring tape.

Did you just set the fan in the hole that you cut, or did you secure it in there some how? If secured, how so?

It is just lowered into the hole.  I siliconed around the box I put on top of that so the only intake was through the pre filter.

Dont fix it as it helps if you ever move it.  Its really heavy with the fan and top box.

Cool, thanks for your response, and thanks for the thread. So far it has been very helpful to me in building my own flow hood.

My box is the same dimensions as yours, but I think your fan has a shorter diameter; my fan is an 8" inline duct fan. When I set the fan in the center of the plenum it sets back barely 2" from the back of the filter.

Do you think that is too close for an inline fan to rest from the back of a 24"×24" filter?

I am concerned that it will blow directly on the back of the fan. What's your thoughts on that?

I think the best way is to try it aand check pressure all over the filter.  I think it will be fine but remeber less is more for longevity.  You want to find the lowest speed you can run this at befor contamination
