Nope, all enails I've seen (and the I'm about to go hit) are resistance heaters that happen to be bent in the shape of a coil, not induction heaters.
In an induction heater, the coil itself does not get hot, it "induces" an electrical current in the object being heated, which heats only the object in the center of the coil up. That's why they only work on metal.
If you have an induction stove, you can pull a pot of boiling water off, put your hand on the "burner", and the burner itself will be cool.

Damn... thanks for explaining. I figured it was silly but wanted to ask regardless. Guess it's the torch for now.

After some googling, it looks like there is ONE company that sells a true induction e-nail. https://www.getispire.com/
But I also found this guy's DIY induction coil e-nail rig, which looks like it could be the basis for a homebrew induction sterilizer.

I just loaded up a bunch of them clone cultures and will see what happens. I PCd them in a polypropelene vial holder which worked out really nicely. I got three of those holders - one for active use on the flow bench, one to hold the vials in storage, and one to PC them in. I also like having a sterilized vial opened up in front of the hood while I'm knocking up plates - I will dip my loop into it before rubbing the spore print which helps transfer spores. The residual water on the print is minimal and dries in a minute or two. All in all, really liking these things so far. Only issue I have found is that I ordered the vials twice from the same supplier inside of one week and got two different styles. One style has a black rubber gasket in the lid and the other style has a built-in tapered sealing area like a GL45 media bottle cap - I strongly prefer the latter because the o-rings can dislodge while screwing in place and I don't trust their sealing. I wish I could get a guarantee on which style I will receive when I order.

Nice. Yeah these have a sort of skirt on the bottom so they can stand up. Pretty fuckin cheap for 50. All I can do is give these a go and see how it turns out. I only recently slanted everything a few weeks ago anyways so no worries if it doesn’t! Does kinda seem the way forward though.
@ Hindsight Do you just drop a wedge in or do you use the myc water scrape method?

Never heard of the mycelium water scrape.... I assume it means pouring some distilled water on top of a colonized plate, scraping a bit, and then dropping some of that water into the tube? I guess the intent there being to introduce less (or no) nutrients into the vial? I didn't do that - just put a very small chunk of colonized agar in there. I figure that the mycelium will consume the nutrients out of it and then go to sleep, or will run out of oxygen first and go to sleep. Either way, sleep. That's the theory anyway. I hope it works because I get so tired of transferring my clone plate cultures to new plates every month to keep them alive and I've had bad luck with slants in the fridge, and even slants in general. A lot of my cultures won't grow on a slant - they don't like the wood for some strange reason. I need to try new wood (instead of the common Popsicle stick) but I'm hoping these vials work and I won't have to. I also find that of the cultures that do take to slants, they never grow right after I take them out. Like I had two different APE cultures that made nice fruits before and after 6 months in the fridge, they still grew immediately and vigorously on agar, grain, and sub, but refused to fruit, and I tried it in about a dozen different tubs. Primordia would form and right before it turned into pins, it would simply stay in that state..... forever. Left some of them like that for two months! Just sat there.

Shit man, that sounds like a massive bummer! I’ve got an APE clone slanted that I’m a bit nervous about now!
Yeah the water scrape thingy is outlined Here
I think an agar wedge is more than suffice though and will be for sure the way I go.
Edit: here’s the reference in the above post just to save all the reading:
Quote:
*** About six milliliters of sterile distilled water is pipetted aseptically into a freshly growing culture. The fragments of hyphae are dislodged by lightly scraping the aerial growth with the same pipette, and the resulting suspension is withdrawn and transferred to a sterile glass vial. Put plenty of inoculum into each vial to insure success.

I'd like to do some long term trials with pouring an LI into these, storing at room temp, and retrieving with a sterile swab.

Sounds like that may work, I think the key is zero nutrients. I say go for it!

For those of you using a flow hood, what do you guys use to hold your tools (loops, xacto knife, scalpels, etc) while working in front of the hood? I really wanted to attach a magnet on the right side frame bezel of the hood and then put my tool on it at a ~45 degree angle so most of the tool is in the air stream. That will work for my scalpel but several of my other tools are aluminum handled (like xacto knife handles which I use for my loop) so that won't work. I can't seem to find any type of friction clips/clamps either. For now I have a block of wood with some holes drilled in it and I set the handles in the holes with the blades pointing up but I don't really like that solution.

Reason I like a holder is to keep them from touching any surface and also to keep them up in the air stream to cool down.
