Did a test Shiitake. Have a bunch of blocks that are ready but I need to figure best fruiting practices.
Only grown 10 blocks over 3 years, so suck at these. I keep trying open blocks but I feel I need to spray the hell out of them daily.

Drying out? Wild how it just pushes pins out of the block. Tons of pins forming all over the sides/top.

They do like to be sprayed down a lot, especially the first few days before pins break through. When it's that light brown color it's a little dry, you can tell it's happily saturated when it's a little darker. The mushrooms will grow a little better and more pins if you keep it a little more moist but otherwise looks good. What strain is that?

This a clone of a friends grow kit he purchased 3 years ago around Xmas. Maybe a cold-shii? Believe you sent me agar bags and I'm about to dip into the "warm".

I've been spraying the block/syringe watering to avoid the pins. I try and keep the block that dark brown. I need to play with my timing but lazy and it's decent enough for me and my small circle.

Some wild oysters I've been growing with my friend. This strain seems to produce smaller sized mushrooms than the commercial oysters my buddy grows. They're like little fingerlings, and they've got a nice round cap.

Is that how they looked when you cloned them? They might need more fresh air?

Yeah they were actually really tiny when I found them, but I thought that was because they're immature.

The weird thing is, they're being grown in the same tent as other oysters, which are all producing beautiful, large fruits. So if they need more FAE, I guess they need more O2 than other oysters do?

First pic is this same wild strain if the fruits are allowed to mature a little bit longer. The caps do open up more. The second pic is some pink oysters, grown in the same tent/same conditions. They certainly get enough FAE.

Idk but I doubt it, all the oysters I've grown do fine in the same conditions, and I've probably done 10 or so different species, probably a bit more ha

Yeah that's my impression as well. I think these wild genetics just stay smaller.

Yesterday's Bounty!

Substrate
----------------------------
1.8 Kg Chopped Straw
.2 Kg Chopped Alfalfa
12g Ground Limestone
48g Gypsum
1-2 Hot water bath pasteurization @ 160-180 *F for 1 to 2 hours then drained overnight.

Spawned with 1 Quart Wheat based spawn. P. Ostreatus V. FL

23 Days from spawning to first harvest.  Incubated and fruited in my tent.  55-60 *F 90-93% RH

First Flush was 1.393 Kg for a dry substrate based biological efficiency (BE) of 69.6% !!

I've been conducting BE tests for alfalfa supplemented straw and so far this is the best results yet!  In fact, the best BE I've had from anything I've measured.  I have a 20% block fruiting which should be ready in another couple of days.  It's looking to be as good or better than this one!

Nice. Really pretty fruits. Just curious, have you tried any bags without the gypsum or limestone?

Thoughts on culling some of these pins? If so, how many and when should I do it?

Bags have been closed until now when I wanted a peak in there. 4 bags each with 2qts of spawn. Bucket tek coir for sub.

Ratios of 1:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 1:4
