I am growing in soil and I thought that too. But the more I read about the role PH plays in nutrient uptake the more I think it’s important. They say anything less than 15 gallons of living soil won’t self regulate PH.

Anyone got some reccomendations on some lights for a 48x48x80 tent? I have been using a 1200w blue/purple LED and it isn't cutting it. I would like to get a Mars Hydro or some cheaper off brand quantum board that I don't need to assemble. Just want plug and play.
Growing regular feminized seeds not autos if that is at all relevant which I am guessing it isn't.
Thanks in advance.

Just got home and can already see a difference but still needs something. Thinking they were just hungry cause I flushed my soil so hard last week . Hit them with cal mag just now to hopefully get them what they need. Next time I will add the dry amendments for flower when I think I need to and not wait. Stick to the plan BPH.

i've always gone by this general rule of thumb for water ph...
soil (dry amendments)= around 6.5 Hydro (liquid feed)= 5.5-5.8

Then I’m good. I tested all of them and the lowest was 6.2. The highest was 6.7. I added the dry amendments a couple days ago when I was in week 5. I had planned to add them Week 4 but got scared I was too hot already because I appeared to be high on nitrogen. Well the plant that had the leaf clawing and dark green is now the tallest plant in the tent and showing classic Signs of nitrogen and calcium deficiency still with curly leaves 🤷 The PH test kit I got also test for N P K ratios although it seems janky. It just says if it’s high low or in the grow zone. So not sure how much help that info is to me but I’ll do it cause I have them.

Lots of cheap HPS lamps to be had these days. Looking hard at the Gavita 1700 and 900 myself. But they are pricy AF so I’ll probably keep looking.

Probably because whatever you have is not actually a 1200w light. 1200w of any light should be way more than enough for a 4x4 but LED companies frequently lie or misrepresent their products. Plug it into a kill-a-watt and I bet it's like 500w. Mars hydro is the worst of them but all the cheap brands are Chinese and have confusing ways of advertising. It's hard to know what you're really getting sometimes.

That could very well be what’s happening now cause I flushed them twice in a week worrying about a problem that may have been caused by too much water. That’s alright. Gonna leave em alone for a few days hope they will be fine.

This Neville's haze x peanut butter breathe is proving to be a serious winner so far. Flower time is reduced and the bud is really packing on, one phenotype is all neville, one is pbb and one is a combo of the 2 with a smell of perfume.
Excited to see the results as it's currently the one cross I've made in the last year that really interests me.

Indoors it's busting

PH is extremely important. I'd always recommend PHing your feeds/teas (*edit-including straight tap/filter water, unless it RO), and make sure your meters are calibrated correctly. Even having a second as back up. In order for your plants to uptake all nutrients properly, you need to be in the ph range, even with soil. All you need is one micronutrient(such as boron) to not be absorbed and it becomes a domino effect. I was talking to someone who was growing at 8.5 but you could tell the plants weren't at their full potential(even using liquid nutes), so if it's steady it's possible but your plants most likely won't be at peak performance. Also swinging the ph can cause lots of problems too, going from 5 one day to 8 the next, plants don't know what to do. They like it steady, in soil I keep mine from 6.2-6.5(sometimes even a lil higher) and have had the best results.

As others have stated defoliating personally improves airflow, light penetration thru canopy, reduce molds, and avoids pests. Example cheese strains, they grow so dense if you don't deleaf, and take braches out you'll most likely run into a problem. Taking too much can also hurt your yield. I've seen ppl strip plants bare and still perform great but a thought I had was they're using liquid nutes, so the plants would be getting most of what they need in subsequent feeds but in organics it'd likely take you a lil bit to bounce back. Defoliating I believe is pretty necessary when you have more than one light running. No need to waste a bunch of money, when it only take 30mins a light, twice each bloom cycle.

i usually run in 4 gal fabric containers. now im using 5gal.
i used to use FFOF soil and earth dust. earth dust has plant probiotics so its makes live soil. only dry feed it 3 times total. once at start and before flower and middle of flower. water only (i use inline filter water). i still had issues with PH and dan from green sunshine company told me that if the water PH is still high or lower than recommended that i should still PH the water.
it was supposed to take care of itself but it isnt that easy. i had ph issues and crap alot. so from experience i know that even a living soil (in 4-5gal fabric pots) needed the water PH'd for best results.

Yes should've mentioned that, even tap/filtered water can still come out super high or low, I've seen over 8 in my area. So its def smart to ph any water you're giving your plants, so you're not throwing em out of wack, or negating nutrient uptake.

Well shit. I knew the day was coming when it would get too hot in the garage to run these lights but I wanted it to be a little later in the game. Gonna have to figure something out it’s above 80 in the tent now and it’s only going to get warmer. Got to get some more 8 inch ducting or whatever and run the heat outside the garage not just outside the tent. I’ve got the farrago door opened now but that’s so fucking sketch. It only take one wrong person to look on the garage and know what that tent is for…
