Different Trip??
    #2766854 - 06/05/04 08:19 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

A question I never found the answer to, or didnt know where to look:

How come are different species of mushrooms containing Psilocybin
and Psilocin supposed to provide (even if only slightly) different
trips, feelings etc.? One is supposed to be more visual or more
dreamy, less visual, more making you think etc? I dont get this,
because it is the same substance in the end.
Does anyone have any answer to this?

well there are different mixtures of chems in the strains/species..wheather or not they actually change the trip or its just in the persons head is a debated topic

what other important chemicals are in the mushrooms other than psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin?
do you mean the different ratios could cause those differences?
i think it cannot be only in ht persons head, because if one mushroom species is called "more visual", then that's because almost
everyone eating it experienced the same..am I wrong?

well, its really only those but as you eat the mushroom its mainly psilocybin and psilocin. The psilocin is what makes the trip happen for the most part, psilocybin breaks down into psilocin by metabolizing it. Then it goes to baeocystin then to nor-baeocystin... i guess slight ratio differences of those at different moods could make them give them the ability to give a different sort of trip. However they are essientially the same chemicals so id say its mostly in peoples minds

a lot of ppl do claim certain strains to have certain characteristics but no they don't match up..for example some say cambodian are more visual some say maz or whatever... also theres dealer hype to take into consideration

I think its all made up crap that different strains produce different effects. Power of suggestion is what is taking place

It has little to do with strains and more to do with the environmental factore that influeneced the production of the alkaloids in differing amounts.

consider this premise:

Psilocybin is red paint
psilocin is green paint
baeocystin blue paint

Just because it's easy to picture, say one cubensis contained 50%psilocybin, 30% psilocin, and 20% baeocystin. While another cubensis found has 20% psilocybin, 50% psilocin, and 30% baeocystin

mixing 50 parts red, 30 parts green, and 20 parts blue paint will give quite a different color than mixing 2o parts red, 50 parts green, 30 parts blue paint would.

So it is with the alkaloids in mushrooms. No cubensis is the same, even within strains, there will always be varying amounts of each alkaloid. Each combination produces a different color, thus apparent variations in trips.

MJ wrote in another thread.....

Quote:

And regarding how much percentage is psilocybine, your body has to convert the psilocybine into psilocine through amination before you even get high.

So in your example if you convert the psilocybin into psilocin before you even get high, then that would mean that red would turn green with the psilocin.....

written actually "serotonin" is not found in "magic mushrooms" but
in our brains. psilocybin and psilocin are very very similar to
serotonin.

"..It is believed that psilocybin, LSD, and DMT work by mimicking the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT), one of the most important and widespread of the brain's synaptic neurochemical messengers. The mimicking occurs because LSD, and particularly psilocybin, possess an almost identical molecular structure to serotonin i.e. their shape is so similar that they are able to 'fool' and infiltrate parts of the brain which process information using serotonergic synapses.

Serotonin is employed in a number of brain structures which seem to control functions like sleep, mood, and general arousal. One of these structures is the raphe system at the base of the brain, whose serotonergic neuronal axons project to all other major areas of the brain, notably the limbic system (which controls emotional responses) and areas of the visual system...."

Its serotonin, and serotonin is a neurotransmitter wich is a chemical in your brain wich by moving in the synapse allows communication betwen neurons ,

As you can see serotonin is similar in structure, but the mushroom doesnt contain serotonin itself

I used to think something similar to this but I've come to believe its more about potency, mindset and setting....I'm not saying certain strains are more potent than others but there are differences between flushes sometimes.. tho I have found on a good substrate they are usually about the same high quality everytime

ironically the strongest shrooms I ever had were malabars from a brf shroom wizard casing
