My wife loves wipes, but I am a paper towel and spray guy. Can I ask why you don't like using them? Not attacking, just wondering.
I find that wetting down a paper towel requires a lot of ISO and even though the towel seems wet, it often doesn't get the tool really wet - sometimes I feel like/wonder if whatever part of the towel I ended up using to wipe the tool is already dried out so it accomplished nothing. Dry vs wet paper towel feels kind of the same (unless it is literally dripping), whereas a dry vs wet ISO wipe look and feel very different. The wipes seem to hold alcohol longer than the paper towels do too.

A quart of Iso is less than two dollars. I have no idea what you mean by “normal alcohol” but I can’t think of anything cheaper than that.

I was thinking the same thing - the cheapest edible alcohol from a liquor store like everclear or vodka is going to be more expensive. Denatured alcohol from the hardware store is shockingly expensive. ISO in quarts is dirt cheap and at least USED to be readily available. During COVID it has gotten a lot more sporadic in availability but it's still readily available.

I was watching moonshiners last night and was wondering how many people make their own alcohol… if those idiots can do it I’m sure most anyone could.

You absolutely could but for the price of ISO at the store, I don't know that it would be worth it.

Mmmm im Iso used to be really cheap here like $2 a litre but after covid the same bottle is 8$.. so im buying the regular alcohol from pharmacys.
Found this quote online and because im not using gloves now will keep using ethyl.
"Ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol are commonly used as disinfectants and antiseptics. Both alcohols are effective at killing germs when used in concentrations over 60 percent, but there’s some evidence that ethyl alcohol is less damaging to your skin."

The fortified wines are alright, but the sugar content can lead to issues. I know it's easier to just go to the gas station where they don't card, but this is one area where you don't want to cut corners. If you can get a fake ID and a ride to the liquor store, it's far better to get a fully distilled liquor. I prefer Captain Morgan, as I believe that the spices help disinfect. Then again, I use rye berries in my grows, so next time I might go with whatever the cheapest rye whiskey is. I think the rye-rye combo would probably really increase potency.

All this talk of iso, I have actually stopped using iso for my hands. It probably sounds strange to change to a waterless ethyl alcohol based hand sanitizer but it works better than iso for my hands for some reason. Since changing I have eliminated bacteria on my plates.

Captain Morgain is only 35% alcohol, that is better than nothing I suppose but far from what science has found to be ideal for sanitization.

True, but the shrooms you grow make you feel like a pirate, which is cool.
Seriously, though, I use 70% iso from the pharmacy like everyone else.
Except for recently, when I kept slacking on buying more and dipped into the Everclear instead.
That's fun times: flaming a tool with the same everclear you've doused your gloves in. Better than a cup of coffee for waking up.

I use hand sanitizer as well it's 70% alcohol. The pump dispenser is just handy for SAB work and the ethyl alcohol doesn't dry my skin out like iso. it's also less wasteful than misting or wiping with a paper towel.

LOL yea big difference in flammability there. The water in 70% makes an important distinction between having eyebrows still or not.

You whoooshed me too, BT. lmao
I like the hand sanitizer idea. I have been spraying ISO mist at my gloved hands and don't really like breathing all of that vapor in the air.
Maybe also a whoosh, but Everclear should be around 90% plus, so not as effective as 70% for cell wall hydro-something reasons. If you wanted to use it effectively in a pinch, you could add water to bring it down to 70%.
I need to grab MushBoy's avatar for this post. :ackchyually!:
