the mycellium is not growing through your top layer because it has no nutrients.i tried vermiculite casing a few times and the shrooms just dont grow as good as they do with a 50/50 case.

Casing actualy shouldn?t colonize much, it should stay an open surface.
For uniform flushes, you should step over to isolating a strain.

What do you mean step over. My casings are not uniform like that. Just different size pins here and there. How can I solve this. My top layer in 95% covered very nicely just not pinning all together?

What casing material do you use? Do you use a special Substrate mix? Those are some beutiful casings. Is there anything I am missing?

This is birdseed innoculated with an isolated strain of PC Mazatapec cased with 50/50+ casing.
