Late start for most by the looks? These warm windy days are killing pins left right and centre in Canterbury. Can’t seem to stay away from likely micros. Despite not needing a trip, I love the hunt and have found a few small fruiting patches. Definitely patched worth checking out later in the season after more moisture.

I ate 50-60 wet libs over the span of an hour, but only felt a little bit spaced out. I went and got about 100 more today from the same spot, but im scared to eat more than 60 incase these ones are more strong for some reason. Ill add some photos just to show you tey are indeed liberty caps. Has anyone experienced this before with libs? and do you think I should try eat more this time?
Cheers
Just wanted to say bravo for your hunting success, man.
Some awesome fungi.

Sorry, got no experience with libs..

Hi Nathan. have you tripped before on libs? seems like a reasonable amount from what I know. If you eat more today your tolerance may still be effected by the mild dose yesterday, maybe give it a week if you have the patience. Nice finds by the way.

What is shroomery etiquette concerning quoting other members' photos?
I've noticed that I have other people's photos in some of my posts in this thread.
Sorry if this is a stupid question.

You’re fine to do so. Generally if someone doesn’t want their photos quoted they’ll specify that.

First day out looking for the season and a patch from last year is delivering nicely Only harvested a couple of mature fruits, but lots of pins like in the photos. How long do you think until these are ready? I have no idea how quickly they will grow. Will have another look tomorrow and see what they are up to.

Expect about 3-4 days until they are fully grown.
I'm really excited to see the lib cap post I've never seen one in person. I hope I can find a few to print this season.

They could be about a week away from being fully mature, they have not even started to open up yet. I guess it comes down to what you are calling fully mature. They could start to open up in a few days but it will most likely take a about a week before they open right out and the caps start turning upwards.

Do the mushrooms grow anymore as the cap opens up? They definitely still drop spores while slightly convex

There is still some growing to go when the caps start to open yes.
Though I often read a theory that all the chemicals in the fruit is already there. I have my doubts about that but I have no way of proving or disproving it.

It's been disproven. Very heated discussions a couple of years ago and someone tested young and older open fruits. I don't have a link and I'm not going to go digging for it, but it's here somewhere.
They definitely keep growing in size as caps open.

I hunt P. Allenii, and P. Cyanescens in the US. I check my spots like every 7-14 days. Somewhere right in the middle of that is probably a pretty good time (~10 days) to check for mushrooms to go from pins to maturity. Wood lovers grow slowly and as long as the weather is right for them, they tend to keep getting bigger. You can tell if they’re stalled because the caps start to go hygrophanous and dry out. No point in harvesting pins or immature fruits because they dry out to almost nothing. Much better to just let them get as chunky as possible.

Depending on weather conditions they can take anything from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. If the spot is easy to get to and not too sketchy you should visit as often as possible and record their growth, post it up here for all us poor poor folks who live in the part of the country that are still too dry/warm.

A few new patches in West Auckland.
Hasn't really rained and it's pretty warm, but like, all goods. Just need to keep searching those council gardens.

So over on the west coast of the south island for Easter, looked in a bunch of areas - woods creek, brunner, Paroa, greymouth. Maybe it's still a bit early original am looking in the wrong areas, but saw very little action in the bush for any fungi, and no subs.

I'm in Auckland, and recently it has gotten colder and wetter, but still I cannot locate one fungus in my local urban bush - had another look today, inspired by Mycoangulo's post.
