Not makarorae chips, I was referring to an earlier post of makarorae, sorry if it's not clear. So far I just tend to dump them in a likely spot.... then watch blackbirds fuck my mycelium puck up. I was surprised my seco butt project produced at all as the following day my careful laid spot was torn to shreds. Nice to see some action coming from Auckland guys. My brothers visiting so hoping to take him out for a decent collect on Monday. Hope all the pins I saw earlier this week are good to go.

Wow Masterxenn and Blazer certainly have the spots. Always enjoy seeing your posts.
Quick question, does weed mat under the wood chips affect growth. I see some good environments around but with weed mat down and I’ve always wondered if these areas are worth checking.

They can be dried like subs. What makes you think they can't?

Cheers. Well after trawling around various old threads and forums there seems to be a debate as to whether it can be done... some say it pretty much loses all potency because in Waeroa its already in the chemical form of psilocin and not psilocybin?
You got experience with this?

I think it's possible that the debate is fuelled by weraroa having a part of the population that can dry fairly well, as well as another part that do indeed loose potency significantly upon drying.
Just speculating though.
Nice long stipes on those bad boiz!
Epic patches Blazer!

Interesting! I wonder what the deal is. Maybe low and slow is the way to go? I guess the only way will be to do some experimenting and find out. If i lose a few along the way then.. plenty more fish in the sea!
Cheers

Not many photos today as I was showing my brother who is visiting a few spots and was trying to rein in some of my obsessive behavior. Could have got twice as much, one spot is just pumping out hundreds, filled the dehydrator up so happy about that, but I'm wishing now I got a few more photos.

Home patch that put out 2 tiny babies a month ago is starting to produce a few more

Found a cute log in the forest, opinions on subs or makas? The mature specimens go quite brown ontop like in photo.

I'm unsure. This is the best example of makarorae I have found. It's unclear how much the appearance varies. We really need to get a bunch more mushrooms sequenced to figure this out.

Any idea of wood species?
Given that it's Auckland I would assume Psilocybe cyanescens, which I think are fairly common on logs in native forest in this region.
Psilocybe makarorae reports seem to be largely Nothofagus/Fucospora, with the remainder being on Kunzea, but I have plenty of questions regarding this that I don't have answers for.
Either way, always love a good native forest Psilocybe of any kind.

Nice log xthrx. I don't know enough to say either way but I had thought that makarorae were generally in beech forest. I did a bit of a search and found that there is a small beech forest in west northland. I had thought it would be cool to explore it in the hope of finding some. Are there any reports of genuine (I know that in the past tasmaniana were mistaken for makarorae) makarorae in the north of the north island?

Bit of a question for the experienced among us. What conditions do you think constitute a flush or a patch to emerge? I guess it depends on the species but lets say subs & Wairoas. Some people seem to say FROSTS or cold nights and others will say humidity and rain. What's everyone's thoughts

You don't need frost. You need cold temperatures and local humidity / moisture. Some dank areas stay moist and humid enough to fruit long after rain. Others require recent rain.
Have a look at Holofractal's work. He is working to nail down the exact fruiting conditions required.

I had noticed that, the current wairoa spot was patchy - Dry in areas and wet in others even after very little rain and was possibly slightly ground water fed. Might be best to focus on those areas until sone good rain comes through

So still super new to magic mushrooms (Yet to try them). I live in Auckland. I'm not sure what questions I'm aloud to ask here but is it mushroom season now or am I to late/early? I see a lot of home grown shrooms but that doesn't help someone who's never done this before. What's the best way to go about this? I know I have to make enough posts to get into finding hunting buddies so Hi all.

Lucky you , I'm in the west coast at them moment and I cant really venture too much in the native forests here as there is a ton of mine shafts around here so my only option is looking for them when I'm visiting cities

Best advice is go back through this thread and look at all the photos. Most are close up shots but you should be able to glean enough information from them all combined to give yourself a good idea of what type of environments they grow in. As far as Auckland goes it's been going for a month or so but is probably about to get started properly soon. You can ask any questions here itS not FB

cities are pretty much your best bet anyway.

Couple of subs from today. Still not having much luck. Checked a few likely spots tonight but came up empty.

Hoping to get some time to have a decent look around this weekend.
