Yup that looks like a burl.

Found another place already clipped and what I think is some but again out of reach.
This is eye level but on a hill and very difficult to reach, it is chaga right?

And then this looks likes some that has already been cut

That first one does look like chaga but it also looks like the tree it is on may be dead and doesn't look like it's on a birch sp? Could you tell what type of tree that was? Maybe something else like a cherry burl 🤔
Definitely looks like someone else has been through harvesting that area already. Seems like your getting practice keying into what to look for and how to find them at least.

Yeah unfortunately I believe so.
Hard to tell which is better for you, the chaga itself, or the amount of hiking required to find it sometimes. Keep at it though, your certainly on the right track. I'm sure your gunna get something good soon. 🤞

Left the house today a man on a mission. Desperately hoping it's mission accomplished.
I found a ton a of cool stuff today I'll probably edit this post a bunch but for right now only concern is if I finally got some quality chaga.

I know the pictures aren't the best, kinda looks like a burl but the stuff at the base of the tree definitely(1st and 2nd pic) looks like chaga, right?

Hell yah, those all look like chaga to me! That golden brown inside where you break it off is a dead giveaway. Burls are also difficult to chop off, whereas chaga is fairly easy to break off if you hit it. Well done! Congrats!

Also curious to see what else you found..

Nice! You weren't kidding that is a whole bunch of stuff! I'm not the best at ID but here are my guesses.

Not a Hericium sp, looks more like Radulomyces copelandii or something similar possibly

Yes old Ganoderma sp you generally want them when the pore surface is still white. I typically see them start popping in late spring early summer where I'm at.

Definitely not morels, they won't be out until early spring. I typically find them around apple or standing dead elm when they show up. Hard to tell from your photo but maybe its old Xylaria Polymorpha?

Yah, Fomes fomentarius I think

Photos is too blurry I can't tell

trametes cinnabarina

Maybe Daedaleopsis confragosa http://www.mushroomexpert.com/daedaleopsis_confragosa.html
Can't really tell on that last one picture is pretty blurry. That is a giant turtle though damn! Waterfalls nearby? Maybe it fell off one of those? Certainly seems like you had a good day!

Awesome! Thank you bro you've helped more than you know and I am genuinely thankful!
I found an amazing specimen of chaga on another dead tree today and your advice saved me from all the time I would've taken to harvest it

Hey guys
I found some more chaga since last post, and while I'm breaking it down I'm noticing what I think is maybe some bark somehow intertwined with the chaga

I'm talking about the whitish flakes in the center of the two pieces, any thoughts? Sorry about picture quality.
Should I try to separate it?
Edit: nope this is mold

The tree looks good right?

Kinda bummed, it makes me nervous that I didn't see this until I started breaking it up, when I first brought it home I thought about just putting it in a t-shirt and hitting it w a hammer, I feel like I never would've noticed this stuff.
I hope there was nothing like this in the other chaga I already ground up and started a tincture with. It came from the same tree
Also on a side note, check out this guy, way too high up to reach/climb but I've been plotting on how to get it lol

Found some new stuff today
I was a little unsure at first I kept second guessing myself that it might be a burl, so I took a chip out of it

I'll edit this post in a moment with some other chaga I found and passed up on

This was humongous but the tree looked dead
