Bit of a cross post
Definitely just leaving TTBVI to do it’s thing now, seems to be working so far

And cloned a nice local fruit from my fave picking spot, wasn’t expecting it to take to tubs well at all but am pleasantly surprised to be even getting pins (:

Wish I’d tried tubs much sooner

Nice, what was the cloned fruit?

No idea, we just call them blue meanies over here but there is a lot of variation in size, colour and shape, pic below on the right is one of the larger specimens I’ve found but they all tend to get fairly big, honestly shocked at how well it’s taken to the tub (so far) if it works out I’ll definitely get a heap of prints.
Is there some reason why most people prefer prints from pans to swabs? I can get cleaner swabs than prints is all, just something I’ve noticed

I think it’s just cuz pans usually print really well so it’s easier to drop a cap on foil.

Yeah that’s true. I’ve heard reports of swabs not germing as well that weren’t even a year old. I’ve personal experience with a few year old cube swabs germing no problem but not pans so I can’t speak to that from my own experience.

I much prefer prints over swabs if there's an option.

Finally putting pan spawn to bulk

The other thing is, if you wanted to you could make a fuck load of swabs out of a print anyways. I’ve done it on several occasions.

I've read on some pan guides that selecting wispy growth over thick growth on Agar is necessary.

Does anyone in this thread follow that line of thinking?

These are the two cups I'm choosing between to make a LC from:

Looks all more or less the same to me. Pictures are a bit blurry to see details but growth seems symmetrical and clean, how many transfers from germination plate is this? Have you reduced the nutrients in this agar yet or is it normal strength? I personally don't care too much if I take from thick or wispy growth since I personally have not experienced any benefit from choosing one over the other and mycelium morphology can vary greatly with changes in agar recipes. I do like to keep nutrients down (0.5-1% LME) as it makes growth less puffy and easier to notice something is out of order.

My camera has a bunch of scratches on the lens, it's about as clear as I can make them until I get a new phone.

They are all T1 from spore on a .5% solution of LME.

Holding them up to a light doesn't show anything weird underneath the mycelium.

I'm going to take a small piece and make LC with it, and then T2 the rest of them.

Thanks for your help again Baba!

Wild clone doing extremely well apart from a bit of contam in the corner and possibly too much fae, hell of a lot smaller than I see them in the wild, not sure how much bigger they’ll get in the tub but stoked all the same!

And pulled about 8g dry just in aborted side pins from this tub last night (that really sucked balls) but it seems to be pushing more from the middle now.

Pans are now my new summer grow project I reckon, only ones not to get wiped out by 3 heat waves and they dominate crappy grain issues.

Fuck, that is an awesome coverage

They do grow bigger outdoors for sure. Whenever I end up with fruits growing from discarded substrate on the compost pile they  tend to be chunky, fleshy specimens.

Cambos have done quite well in tubs though and bisporus are producing big as caps.

More FAE helps, this cambo tub was fruited with no lid on and a bit of maintenance during the days.

RDU just stayed tiny though which is commonly reported by others as well, species or variety does play a role.

First pan mono tub here (bisporus).  Noticed the first pin about a week ago and this is as far as its come along ....hopefully it fills out a bit in there. Spawned 12-23, cased 1-1.

Congrats on getting pins mate! Thats an achievement in itself! Hopefully it will fill out but usually if I notice a few pins coming up they grow like an inch a day! Your casing looks pretty much 100% colonised. What did you use to case?

With shitty grain and fungus gnat issues I decided to split my 1 litre jar (about a quart) of TTBVI between 2 of what I guess are our shoe box equivalent in the hope of getting most fruits in 1ish flush, about 1:6 I reckon, seeing Aspect post about trying this to minimise that overlay and side pinning problem sealed the deal, definitely got less overlay and side pins, 1 tub with 3 holes either side just above sub level seemed to have chunkier fruit so will most likely stick to that setup.

Not a bad result there bud! I’ve heard from others that TTBVI is quite forgiving. Put some to grain a week or so ago, should be able to see for myself soon!

If by forgiving you mean it doesn’t give a fuck? Then yes, yes it is  (:
That grain will probably be ready to go in the next day or so it’s that quick.

Thanks swab, it was cased with peat/verm/lime.  It may have come from a batch that was a bit light on the lime.

@ 3 AM Yeah they got a shake I think the day before yesterday. Think they won’t be far from finishing in the next few days. Will snap a pic when I get home

@ Stagger Yeah maybe went a bit too easy on the lime there then!
