Continuation of Pan bisporus grow in shoeboxes
Top shoebox is coir/verm only, bottom shoebox is coir/verm/potting soil containing chicken manure

Myc is quite light and wispy although I’ve read that’s not uncommon with bisporus. Keeping my fingers crossed. C/v only substrate colonized more quickly however that could be due to a number of factors like uneven spawn splitting and spawn mixed with more inoculation points closer to the surface. C/v/ps was only about 75% but cased anyways as I had already thawed casing.
Again, top is c/v only and bottom is c/v/ps.

Possibly cased a bit early but we’ll see what happens. Hoping to see some fruits from at least one tub.

I've got bisp colonizing some sslc, can't wait to see how this goes. Are they known to do well on c/v? or is this the test?

Yeah I’m testing it. About a year ago I cased some cyan grain in a jar and top-fruited it and got some mushrooms so I don’t know why it wouldn’t work but I’m sure there’s a reason why everyone runs with manure in the sub. Hopefully it works. I’ll post an update in a few days.
Are you running those bisporus in tubs? Kirkeng had some really nice bisporus grows if you haven’t checked out his grows in this thread.

Would love to se some c/v grows
This is what I got from a 8 quart mono.

Fruits were quite small at around 2.5". Think cron said that they will fruit from coir and cased grain but they won't get big. I think there might be some cultures out there that will do OK on c/v.

Crack - Baba Yaga takes one quart to up to a 30q tub in that initial post so you can definitely spread a quart to a couple of shoeboxes if you want to play around with things.
Baba Yaga - is that a coir/verm grow you just posted? Definitely gives me more hope for this if so. If I get them to fruit I’ll do a comparison on wet weights between the two shoeboxes.

I have a few shoeboxes in my tent right now that are 100% CV and they aren't liking it. A few very small side pins but they are pretty much refusing to grow.
I have monotubs, too, but after seeing the shoeboxes fall flat I'm expecting similar results there. I'll reserve final judgement over the next month but I'm not liking the CV only grows.

Fuck yeah. I actually threw together two coir only bisporus shoeboxes when I made up my kimchi tubs just because because. I figure some of the performance gap (with bisp) is just a learning curve with a less-than-ideal material. Plus I literally couldn't get any manure or compost atm for weird reasons. Gonna try bisp on moose poo as well once I age some...

Mission accepted. A true casing. I might go the new jiffy coir mix, pasteurized. It still works well on PE. Maybe some pastuerized Black Kow as well. I'm still gonna run some manure subs as well but I have limited amount of poo.

Like yours, I get full colonization with CV, just wont fruit well. All of those side pins showed up today, it freaky how fast they can grow.

Thank y’all before chiming in with your experiences on coir/verm. Have given me a combination of hope and despair Nice to see others toying around with it.
Cooleko those side pins look pretty stocky and healthy unless it’s just the photo. Did you keep the lid on during colonization or fruiting at spawn?

Hell yeah on the moose poo, I haven’t tried it for pans yet as I never went to get any this year but have done a few runs of Tamps with moose poo and they really liked it, more so than the usual horse I use. Initially I wondered if their diet of aquatic plants lended some different minerals or something they liked. I look forward to seeing that grow!

These two shoeboxes had the lid on until cased at 90%+ colonization and tossed into the tent. I'm wondering if those side pins will grow out well in the next day or so. I have a third shoebox that went in at spawning. Just exploring.

Awesome you still are getting some fruits with those though cooleko Yeah I think this wouldn't be as forgiving with cyans but I think with bisporus and coir you just have to be there or be square with surface conditions at the perfect time(s). I expect smaller than ideal fruits though. Probably will case these proper like Crack mentioned doing. Think I have some peat somewhere... Much higher hopes for moose dung and coir. Would have more pans to play with but voles went to work on my pan qts by eating the tape from the exchange holes trying to get the grain so lost those for now. Happy af to have these to play with atm. Fuckers left me 3 x full pts of bisp
Kirkeng- nice! I wanted to try a couple exotics on moose after very nice results with subtrops.

Thank you so much for the guide Baba!
I was intimidated for a long time about growing pan cyan but it turned out pretty straightforward! Surely more challenging than cubes or nats in most of the steps, but I'm extremely satisfied with the results.

I started from a print of pan cyan Jamaica to pda, isolated some whispy mycelium, transferred to rye berries, spawned 1 1/2 quart to 50/50 coir/cow manure pellets, cased with 50/50 peat/verm when fully colonized. The fruiting temperatures were around 65-70f and took a week to pin. I set the vent holes like recommended, though they could need some more fae next time to get bigger caps? I was out for the weekend and so I was a bit late for the harvest, as it's probably been sporulating since yesterday. Anyways, the clusters are so dense

I'll definitely keep on working on pans, they are really satisfying to grow! I've also got some bisporus and cambodgiensis on agar, curious to see how those behave
