Nice work mycoplex  Terrible at pans looks different IMO.

Here an update on the uncased tub.

This is a good pinsets so far, well spaced out and not too many crazy dense clusters and also no side pins.
I really hope the fruits are growing to a decent size.

Typical that this happens just before the beginning of my pan hiatus.
I would really like to play around with this more.

Heart Break!
My Nec-D tray was looking beautiful. Opened her up today to case and the mean green had moved in (upper left). With cubes I might cut that half of the sub out and try to fruit the clean side. What do you folks think about that? (I would not put it in my fruiting chamber).

 oh, no.

If you don't have any knots yet then that's a toss IMO but that is just me and I usually run a minimum of 3 of the same so there is always backup.

But hey, I have had great success by not listening to what others say and having said that, I have had experienced great failure in doing so as well.

Maybe do it for science.

Thankfully the other trays are looking good.
I had to move my fruiting chamber into my cold garage so I’m hoping I can manage the temperature out there…
A bit out of order - Bunnell is the first one.

Baba Yaga
I’ll probably try to salvage some of it.

Just between you and me my first pan grow was on coir (no manure) with a coir verm casing, in my cube Martha. Basically the way I was growing cubes.

It wasn’t a Flush like we see in here but it was pretty solid! πŸ˜‰

There is no harm in trying.

Sounds interesting, have not given up on just coir yet but it's on the back burner at the moment.

Your other NecD trays are looking good. If they don't trich out in the first 3 days after casing then you are in the clear I'd say.

What did you use to inoculate?

Those trays were all spawned with millet. I waited a few more days than I needed to to case. Just didn’t have time before.

So is the 'no casing' tek simply starting to provide fae (low co2) immediately after spawning (and providing a top spawn layer on top of any exposed grains, which is a good practice anyways)? So that pins form before a terribly thick overlay has occurred? Seems like this is just exactly what happens in nature when you think about it.

Yes that's what has happened because of an accident, there is no TEK yet but I will be following this path for sure into a hopefully bright future.

Try it as well, seems to work to some degree but final results are not in yet and the proof is always in the pudding. A good pin set alone doesn't make a good grow.
Looking at the fruits now they seem to grow fast but won't grow very tall. I don't know yet, will have to wait and see and then repeat it many times.

Hey moonwatcher here is a link to an earlier post where I tried something similar.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27558516#27558516

didn't work that well but you seem interested in this idea.

Hi guys just wanted to know if this agar recipe is too much nutrients and how you should adjust if need be? I cant find LME anywhere here and buying online isnt option...

Agar is 700ml potato water
5ml honey
5ml maple syrup
7,5 g agar powder

Thanks in advance

I made like 30 pan germ plates about a month ago and they all got germination eventually. I actually made a post here complaining that I'm not getting germination, cause I read many posts saying they got germination in like 3 days. I think around the 7-9 mark is when everything started germing for me.

I used 3 types of germ plates 1) grain (brown rice) water agar 2) 1:5 cornstarch/grain water and 3) 1:4 cornmeal(the yellow stuff)/water, all with good success. Your agar concentration is borderline (1% being the line) for allowing bacterial swarming (bacteria to swim through it). I know many people like softer agar, it's just something to keep in mind.

I got best germination on the cornstarch + grain water plates - it's slightly 'goey', so when I scraped the spores with a loop and run them across the surface they were sort of 'smeared in' the goo - this got the quickest germination and best growth.

Why don't you just boil some grain water instead of dealing with potatoes, honey and syrup? Grainwater agar is a classic

So i would just use the grain water i boil the Millet in 700ml and add 7.5 g agar and that is it? The thing is i have plates but dont know of they are clean to transfer to grain. Someone said my plates look weird and that maybe i was using too much nutes making it look that way...

@PsiloPsychIn - The struggle is real. I tossed three Pan tubs into the compost yesterday after putting them in the tent five days ago because they all developed trich. Happens to all of us. Like Baba said, just got to run several instances of each tray to account for that - though I'm sure you know it. Your other trays are looking great!

@Grim11311 - You want 70% distilled water plus 30% grain water. So if you are making up 700ml of agar, that would be 210ml grain water and 490ml of distilled water. And yes, just save some of the water you boil your millet in, pour it through a filter (cheesecloth, coffee filter, nut milk bag) to remove the sediment (this is optional but helps make the plates more clear), add distilled water and your normal amount of agar. Everything else is the same. Don't need all that extra stuff.

I use 100% grain water and feel like 30% would be WAY too dilute. I'm using Wheat, not sure if that matters.

I thought the same but the original recipe I read said 300ml grain water to 700ml distilled. It has been working great for me. It may depend on how long you boil your grains for and how dark the water is.

That's true, but Wheat is one of the largest grains out there so I imagine it must end up fairly concentrated? Boil any longer than I'm doing and there would be too many burst grains. I feel like the concentrated stuff works the best on all fronts.

I have a "shade" of color I look for after mixing with distilled water. Lately I've been just rolling with whatever color it turns out (dark, light, whatever) and it seems to work the same regardless. I've done it with oats, millet, and rye. All about the same. That being said, I haven't run any truly scientific side-by-side tests though so it's all subjective.

This is roughly the shade most of mine turn out looking. I hand-selected this specific photo to show off my clean agar skills:

J/K - Had a really bad SAB session that day. I think I've fixed it by deep cleaning the room, keeping my 180lb dog out of the room, and running a HEPA 24x7 in there. Last two sessions have been flawless. But my flow hood parts arrive tomorrow. Hoping to get it built by week's end!
