Sort of.  I'm guessing this is why full pint jars aren't recommended šŸ˜…

Oh thats not ready. Pinning on the otherside though

Yeah i can imagine why having a bigger jar isnt great. Cant shake so having it all colonize is harder.

If one of my BRF jars is pinning I will go ahead and birth it and just thoroughly rinse off the uncolonized spot of substrate before I dunk. The cakes will pin before they are fully colonized if there is a bacterial spot present, which is fairly common. Birth it, rinse it, dunk it, and roll it. Toss it in a humidity chamber or water tub. That is what I would do anyways.

I went ahead and pulled it from the jar.  I have a few of these jars so if it doesn't fruit, I'll be fine.  Had to heat up the lids since I forgot to loosen them after PC'ing.

Once I pulled it out of the jar, the uncolonized portion was just the very outer part of the cake.  So I didn't have to remove much.  I also noticed a second little baby pin below the first pin.

Nice! Looks like most of the ā€œuncolonized spotā€ was just the dry verm falling around the shrinking cake. Good job on getting a full pint BRF cake to colonize.

Make sure to give it a good dunk. It will absorb a lot of water that will be used on your first flush.

^^^ I think that happens a lot.. ppl don’t realize it’s just verm falling over the edge as the cake shrinks and usually people pick them up and inspect multiple times a day so there’s movement lol

Also, if it’s MS, some myc doesn’t grow very thick and what looks uncolonized, is actually colonized.  Tops of jars are usually the first thing to colonize because that’s where it’s inoculated.. it’s the bottoms that get tricky in the larger jars due to compacting sub by gravity and that’s where water settles.  It’s also the firthest away from the inoc points so if you have to use larger/taller jars, try to get inoculate to the bottom.

And you can always cut uncolonized sub off a cake and get good results.. happened all the time with tall 1/2 pints.. cutting into colonized myc isn’t going to cause contamination.. ppl break up colonized grains and put them to semi-clean cv everyday (for those that might be reading this and wondering.)

Faht

Someone at the shroomery sent me a label "p.nsw" and i don't know what it is, figured it's some kind of slang

My new stove (new house) has 4 propane burners:

17,000 BTU Front left
9100 BTU Back Left
20,0000 BTU Right Front
8000 BTU Center

I vented my 23qt Presto for 11 minutes after the lock popped.
It's been sitting on the 9100 BTU burner for 40 minutes now at approximately 8psi.

The manual states to not use any burner over 12000 BTU but I am relegated to the 9100 burner for now. Wish I had one that was 12k but alas.

I really wanna move it to the 17000 BTU burner on medium-ish to raise the temp but that's none too smart methinks.

Comments appreciated :-)

/rant

EDIT: Too late... I already put it on the 17k burner on medium and it's fine so far :doge:

2nd EDIT: Didn't work. Too risky to put on any higher flame imo. I trust the directions wre written for a reason :-( I'm looking for a hot plate I guess ((shrug))

17k is close enough not like a 200k turkey fryer. Just a hair off high would get you into 12k but you should be just fine on high.

Update!! Turns out my pressure gauge is stuck on 8psi even after cool down and removal.

Ya, but the sound of the pressure weight is how I set the burner.

What inthepit said. Broken gauge doesn’t somehow make the rocker lighter. Unless of course it didn’t rock. The gauge is definitely needed if you’re trying to run at 14 PSI or lower for a longer period for whatever fuckin reason, otherwise the sound of the rocker is all you need

I am almost positive that I have the same stove. The 17k burner just a hair past medium has not given me any issues with the 23qt presto. It has however drastically reduced time to boil.

Putting a thermometer on the PC is a good backup gauge. As show in my signature.

Your probe can reach 245F from the outside of the PC?? The highest I've gotten a meat probe was 113C (237F) and that was at 18-19psi.

I've only had a few brands over the years, but all of them exceeded 250 easily.
