I'm not going bury the lead here - I prefer these to pans and cubes by a wide margin. I have some nats that I haven't tried yet, but unless they rock the house I can't imagine how they would be better.
Trip dosage reference: A basic trip for me is 2.5g dried APE. That's been my standard go to for a while. Too much for me (brain melting disorientation) is 50g ape (fresh). I prefer to trip fresh, but life doesn't always work out that way
25g semperviva = ~40g APE = ~20-25g pans (fresh). Your mileage might vary.
- 25g fresh boiled as tea with lemon.
- I weigh ~170lbs
- Onset on empty stomach was ~15-20min. Pretty normal trip curve, 3 hours peak, + 2 hour come down.
- Taste - very mild
- Nausea - very low for the potency.
- CEV - extreme at the start, dropping off after the first 2 hours.
- OEV - low at the start, extreme at the peak, very high overall.
- Colors - bright, crisp, intense geometric patterns
- Disorientation - high at the start (the usual for strong trip). Smoother ride than pans or cubes at similar dosage.
- Euphoria/energy - high - much more giggly than pans or cubes.
25g was at my max fun tolerance. I don't think I'll go higher, might knock it back to 20g fresh (or keep it at 2.5g if dry).
It surprised me, they had very little flavor so didn't expect much. Onset was very fast and that flagged that it was going to be a wild ride.
CEVs were very intense early on... you know the kind where you don't want to close your eyes... but also... yeah you do cause riding that inner universe is the whole point?? Very intense. Stronger CEVs than APE, similar to pans.
OEVs were also very strong, I had difficulty looking at my GFs face for a little while, it was wild. Her face also turned into mine for a bit.. something something egocentric I guess
Nausea was very low for the trip intensity - a little but barely noticeable. The high was close to 40g of fresh ape, but at that dosage of ape I can barely keep it down.
My GF did 15g, we had a blast (she is smaller and less tolerant). It was a really nice, high energy, trip. Low nausea and low flavor are huge bonuses, given how easy they are to grow, they just de-throned pans for me.
Thanks again to Ambrose for the spores, I really appreciate it I'll pay it forward with a swab giveaway next week.
Thanks for the report! They really are something right? It seems we agree on the potency. For me it hit in two waves though, the second being a whole different league than the first.
You should try the Natalensis as well. I won't say they are better, but definitely would not replace them with semperviva. They are both great and I would take them for different purposes.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I was always a super positive "it's all good" person, I could not imagine before that I would one day have a depression but here we are.
I drank a tea with solids included so it seems there were two stages. One fast come up (after 30 mins more or less) to a milder experience, and then a second come up around 2 hours later to the absolute ineffable experience. The total trip was like 6 hous but it felt like more than one lifetime, time was completely bended and twisted with holes here and there
I remember looking at my gf (great shaman btw!) and genuinely not knowing whether I was me or her
Well I'm glad I requested it because what a trip report
Thanks for the details Man! And it's cool you had someone with you during the experience. Did you listen to music during the trip?
Of course! I never trip without some Shpongle

Mario did those trays fill up all at once or gradually??
I seem to be constantly getting new pins so thereβs some in each stage all over the tub.

A few early ones and a few stragglers but pretty much the same time. Pins were 11 days after spawn. Spawned 12/26.

Gosh! That seems so fast compared to what most people had to wait for so far! Where did you get your print? If you don't mind me asking of course.

Damn, we'll never know then
I was asking because I remembered this from the first few pages of this thread:
Quote:
mycorry said: [...] Having said that, It is my opinion that subtropicales is the best mushroom for cultivation after one gains experience with cubensis. It is better in every way, trust me and try it, but get your spores from a reputable source. I have 4 sets of subtropicales genetics and two of them are by far more aggressive at pinning and colonization than the others. [...]

Thatβs the type of stuff that makes me think there might a couple subspecies or whatever going around.
Cuz I was also expecting a long wait and they pinned immediately, faster than a lot of cubes even.

I hope I get at least a fruit or 2, to clone. My genetics take quickly to agar/grain. Issue is I'm sure my blocks are super huge and will take forever to fully consolidate. I have 4 blocks in my tent along with king oysters and lions mane. The gourmets fucking love it, figured semps wouldn't mind.
The block that may have been pinning smelling kinda trichy. Out it goes. I'll throw it in my trich bathroom. Get's a nice direct heat source. We're moving from 55F to 70F boys. Shit's gonna green or pin.
I have 2 newer bags colonizing still and decided to knead one as a test. Beautifully quick recovery in about 14 hours. Guessing I'll go to trays and then case?

I just cased my 1st shoebox of Subtrop.
This is day 5 after spawning 3 jars of Subtrop with 3 jars of CVG:

Cased it with sifted pasteurized cactus soil:

End result (there's actually a color difference because I didn't have enough soil, so I took some from a leftover that was kept in a bucket):

From the side:

I got my swab from alaskappalachian (thanks Man!), last time I checked in this thread, his Subtrop pinned after 40+ days. So if you guys have nothing to do tonight, take 5 mins to pray the Mushroom God with me for something faster
In a few days I'll case a Pasty EZD of Subtrop and then... the waiting game begins

Yes, that is exactly 5 days after spawning. Jars took ~25 days to colonize.
Hopefully pins will show-up soon!

A little test fruit with a print the wonderfully generous people of the Marketplace donated.
Did about 3/4 of a cup of dry millet (no soak, no simmer) in two pint jars. Spawned them into sterilized coir/soil/verm (about equal parts) at roughly 1:1. Been about 25 days since S2B and 17 since casing with the same sub mix.
