Curious question I have got a bunch of 1st transfer plates of PE and GT, they all look very clean yet slightly more fuzzy mycelium growth but definitely healthy looking does anyone think I can just get away with using the 1st transfer plates that way way I'm not turning 30 plates into 90 haha

You could but it would likely carry some bacteria or other nasties with it.

I always go for at least 2 transfers and more if it looks like shit.

I like to go at least T2 or T3. Sometimes contams hide in T1s. Just take one transfer from each, or just take transfers from your best looking ones if you don’t want to burn so many plates. You can use a T1, but you won’t have as much piece of mind that it is clean, IMO.

You could make an LC with a small bit of it. If there is any bacteria at all, LC will show it clearly. You can do both - make a transfer and make an LC. If the LC is good and you use it, you will have cut your time to inoculation and colonization times by days.

The line on the 2nd plate is where I cut into the agar btw too Incase anyone was wondering, and I'll definitely go for the 2nd or 3rd transfers! I'm just not sure what I should do with the T1 plates? Just throw them into the ground? It's sad it seems like such a waste of agar plates haha plus I buy mine so I may start making my own💯

You could inoculate single jars with the plate after you transfer to new plates. If it's clean enough you get fruits to clone at least.

I like using T1s, as long as they’re clean and consistent.  If it’s consistent growth it’ll typically flush consistently.  ill take a clone from the t1s that make the cut for weight and speed and then slant and continue to cultivate that culture.

Reduce number of plates by doing 3 transfers on a single plate.

Transfer asap you see clean mycelium(usually happens when mycelium has the size of a dime). Don't let it overgrow because contaminants will catch up.

2 transfers are usually enough. Avoid unnecessary transfers.
