Create a safe, cheap, and powerful disinfectant with sawdust and water?

I found this article surfing Reddit that showed they were able to make a safe low cost —$0.04427 per kg disinfectant. I thought that this may be useful to anyone who already has or uses sawdust and wants a cheap disinfectant that has been shown to kill spores.
Quote:
This study proposes a sustainable alternative, a bioliquid derived from biomass prepared by hydrothermal liquefaction. Results indicate a high inactivation rate of pathogenic virus and bacteria by the as-prepared bioliquid, such as up to 99.99% for H1N1, H5N1, H7N9 influenza A virus, and Bacillus subtilis var. niger spores and 99.49% for Bacillus anthracis. Inactivation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis confirmed that low-molecular-weight and low-polarity compounds in bioliquid are potential antibacterial components. High temperatures promoted the production of antibacterial substances via depolymerization and dehydration reactions. Moreover, bioliquid was innoxious as confirmed by the rabbit skin test, and the cost per kilogram of the bioliquid was $0.04427, which is notably lower than that of commercial disinfectants. This study demonstrates the potential of biomass to support our biosafety with greater environmental sustainability.

The methods used to obtain the bioliquid were:
1.) Dry sawdust at 80⁰c 2.) sieve it 3.) add 15 g sawdust and 210 mL ultrapure water into 500 mL autoclave 4.) Autoclave while stirring for 60 Minutes 5.) Separate liquid through 0.45 um PTFE film
I was thinking about making some and seeing how it works with alcohol and by itself in my SAB.

The active ingredient is probably tannins. They are leeched into the water by the high heat. Tannins are very anti-microbial.

That is really interesting, I had no idea tannins were anti-microbial

If tannins are the active compound then couldn't we just brew some tea rather than all this autoclaving? The energy costs to produce this wonder disinfectant are insane.

Theres plenty of low cost options that are well proven, how safe and cheap do we need to go?
