I got a gaming computer and me and my gf have been playing It Takes Two for a little bit and we love it! It's a lot of fun, it's challenging and not excessively violent. Are there any other cool split screen games worth checking out?

Unravel Two is another pretty fun game to play with a partner.

Apparently Sonic Adventures 2 is also out for PC, might be a cool blast of nostalgia!

Castle Crashers! It's a cute lil side scroller game with a lot of personality. Honestly any game made by The Behemoth is great.
Cat Quest 2 is also great, pretty unique RPG. Can be a lil grindy and fetch-questy but it's fun. In the same category, Minecraft Dungeons is also amazing.
Last suggestion is N++, it's a kind of arcadey 2d platformer where your goal is basically just escape a room and get gold on the way.
Edit: Also haven't seen anyone mention any of the Halo games (except 5... can't play that one split screen). Entirely worth playing through if you like shooters, and a great entry into them if you've never played one.

I have really good memories with multiplayer Halo
There's this platforming shooting game called Broforce. It's a good co-op game. Although, it is not for video game novices. Your team mate can bring you down if you don't work together.
The Contra games are very fun to play co op if you have a team mate that is good at games.
Kirby Super Star is a great co op game that is more geared towards gamers that have never played games before. Your team mate can't really bring you down and you can beat the game pretty quick. A few days is realistic.

Battle block theatre is great! I'll have to look into castle crashers!
N++ reminds me of those old flashgames with stickpeople I used to play back in the 2k's. Good stuff! Gears is pretty fun too, and I miss Halo a lot! I should see if I can play with my sister's boyfriend or my sibilngs now that I'm single.
Oh shit! I forgot about broforce! I've played it before, lots of fun! I got my start gaming with kirby on the gameboy color!

The game "lovers in a dangerous spacetime" is a very fun co-op game. It's best played with 4 players, but still fun with only 2.
