Sup gents
Been training in the gym for the past 11 years, used to do powerlifting but due to injuries I can't anymore. So now I just go there to keep my health in check and lift as hard as I can and trying not to get any old injuries back.
Would be cool to do some gym talk with some guys who enjoy the same thing.

Was doing well going to gym on regular. Got caught in the depression, alcohol cycle.
Have been easing back into it last few weeks. Not overdoing it, so I run myself down and give up.
Push ups, bodyweight squats, dumbells and lots of light stretching through out the day. Combined with a nature walk. Feeling a lot better.
Have a barbell and sit up bench that I use for incline bench press. No rack. So can't go as heavy as I like.
As much as I'd like to be swole. I want functional muscle aswell.
Seeing Me Olympia types is awesome. But not the look I would want to achieve.
Dolph Lundgren in his prime. Is what I'd consider perfect combination of size and movement ability.

It seems to me that in some sense I can call myself a gym rat, although I don’t go to the gym for a very long time, about 2.5 years, during this time I have had quite good results. But I'm not one of those people who count calories, calculate it all, and live only in sports. I also smoke on a regular basis and drink alcohol quite often, but in moderation. What doesn't stop me in sports)

Can't call myself a gym rat right now, because since the pandemic started I stopped going to gym and focused on home exercising basics. However, I work out regularly and like to be in shape.

Bench, Squat, deadlift, military press are great exercises. Don't do more weight than you can handle and your fine.

Saw this thread got a recent bump…. found one spot I can bring some value to a place I’ve come to love ….. If ANY Shroomery member needs any help in the area of diet or fitness, please reach out. Outside of boxing (my true passion) I make a living training bodybuilders and writing personalized diets for people from all walks of life. I am mainly working with athletes and bodybuilders atm but take care of all of my friends and family. Why? Much like mushrooms there are so many wrong misconceptions in the health and fitness world. Add in the typical offenders of YT, IG, etc and you have a complete mess on your hands. Couple that with people using gear (steroids) by the boatload with absolutely no idea or real concepts concerning risk mitigation, goal orientation, or how to properly eat or lift in the first place. This ultimately ends with “average Joe” feeling below average, inadequate, and hopeless. Fuck that. We are all different. What works for one will probably not optimally work for the next.

I'm not swole, I currently don't go to the gym, but I do calisthenics outdoors everyday and am in good shape! I love to workout, I just don't like toxic gym culture!

Learned. Dribble drive, kick it out, master the corner three. Saw guys doing it at a higher level and thought, that is pretty smart.
And that plus factor of getting it open and shooting it and just walking away while in the air, great feeling. SWISH.
They adjust but my rec center and practice it, and the walking away in midair. Really if one has the athletism, I could only make it in baseball to a very limited degree, is enjoyable to get up at 4 and hit the gym at five with no one there and practice.
So many people don't get it, practice. Sports, music, triathonls, never done the last one but could getting my body ready as have two parts down.
I can hit threes like a motherfucker. Learned the dribble drive after the fake and the soft shots. Prefer the running ones to the short stand up ones.
Is like one guy on the shroomery put it. You like drugs, I do at times, but competition is another high, thrill, rush. And when on a roll some talking. Is a lot of fun.
Just put a clock and some refs in. If not, one gets the shit beaten out of them physically. IME.

I like it! Guy at the gym I go to does the same thing. He used to play pro lacrosse and just picked up a ball afterward to stay active. Bangs threes all morning long. 10 from the 5 spots over and over until his buddy shows up. Definitely a great way to stay in shape. Some people who look to be in shape are a far way off from full court pick ups, especially running them back to back, one after another.
Wrestling family steered me away but I always liked to play… could still throw one down but the knees are getting a bit stiff lol. Father Time is the real GOAT. Never lost and never will.

True Mass pride. That is the thing, time takes its toll, not preaching, but that spirit remains. I love that saying from the Big Labowski that the Coen Brothers based off a guy in L.A. Might be the laziest man alive. The dude.
Gets me up in the morning when I feel that lazy creeping in when aging as we all do. Actually stretch before playing. Used to look at my dad like why? Pull a hamstring that takes awhile to heal.
Life is interesting and I don't get why people complain about age, is just part of it. Mass. I think of Boston and Burr the comedian. It is so to the point and that pride. Celtics are looking good. Never shot off a floor like that, I like it.

Mass is something else my friend…. I’m originally from Pa. Not a fan of any Boston sports teams, or Pa for that matter, but Boston is a good sports city.
On that euro step… that move is a treat! Some do make it look crazy easy! When Ginóbili was in his prime it was nearly impossible to guard. Then Harden and Curry enter the league with insane shooting ability. Add that euro step and you have a game that was revolutionized in a few years. Bad night if a team doesn’t put up triple digits… insane!

Yeah. As a life long fan and endless hater of Spurs, have endlessly owned the Jazz thanks for it started with Manu as it makes sense with his career which in many ways in the NBA and elsewhere is definitely a HOF for the game of basketball.
Got to get better at making assumptions. Talked to a PA guy at a Y game in Provo with football and he just kept talking about the mountains which made me laugh. We call it happy valley here so don't know if you give a shit about it but they call it the same and don't know why.
But to basketball. If I start using it afraid of traveling calls as they call it often in rec leagues compared to the NBA which, is basically never. Free throws 75 percent but can get that up, not rushing it and routine.
Is amazing from Detroit bad boys to the Spurs and all their championships based on D now it is a team even putting up 150 in a game that is not an all-star one and that doesn't surprise anyone. On with the playoffs.
Will be interesting what the Lakers do after that play in game. I just want Memphis to lose, the new bad boys like Detroit.

Most mountains of Pa are just really big hills but it’s more a land of valleys. Yes they love “Happy Valley” there (I was invited to their summer camp 10-12th grade while that vile scumbag was still creeping around. The valley was far from happy for many years. Not a fan of PSU tho… only their wrestling. Utah (Provo) looks beautiful out there.
And on que… did you see last night’s game? 126-123 lol… Kings went shot for shot with the Warriors and looked pretty good. Makes me think Jordan would DEF average 40 a game today. No question. Going to be interesting! All of the Celtics fans are coming out of the woodwork, green everywhere.

Fanbase is strong, doesn't surprise me. Jazz are the same but no one drinks. Ainge is working his magic again here.
Just one championship. Been through the almost with Houston and the Bulls. Great basketball, but never win. Or the Utes against Kentucky up ten at half. Yes, I remember it.
Lilliard playd at Weber where my brother taught. Wasting his lcareer away in Portland.
Shit, my life is good. Just want the Jazz to win one in times to come.
This year, don't think Celtics get past the Bucks. Like them in the East. G.S. who the fuck knows? Sac has been impressive this year still long stretch a doubter.

Three's are automatic if open. Working on my driving floaters now as seeing so much of it in the playoffs. Not easy to master.
Gym has 6 hoops and says no dunking on the lower ones. I still do, lol as it is a rush and they know but they let me be. Maybe because I don[t hang on it. But I get the feel of a bricked three point shot and rushing down the rebound to a side hoop at full speed and dunking the shit out it.
Natural highs and artifical highs. Love them both but that is a rush.
