In-line fans like hyperfans rather than blowers for Larimar hoods?

Hello guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience using other fans than blowers for their hoods? I have an 8in hyper fan I don’t use And I was wondering if it would work for an 24x36 flow hood with the filter from fungi.com The cfm is lower than the recommended blower but not by much https://fungi.com/products/universal-blower-1040-cfm-8-sp https://www.amazon.ca/Hyper-Fan-Digital-Mixed-Flow/dp/B00JGC7LC8 Any one know if this will work?

It's all about the intersection point of the pressure/volume curves for the fan and filter in question.
If you can find a fan that provides the needed volume/pressure operating point for the filter you want to use it will work. I know there's a lot of good write-ups on this aspect of the fan selection process so I'll leave it to the search engine from here.
Generally blower / squirrel cage style fans are better suited for creating the pressure needed to push the required volume through a HEPA filter for a flow hood.
Axial fans are better in low pressure use cases which is why you don't see many used for flow hoods. It might be able to be done, but it really depends on the particulars of the fan and filter. It is not the natural choice though.
Going off the rails here...
If you want to go wild, set up a wind tunnel and take the appropriate pressure/volume measurements. You could use manometers to measure pressures in in-h2o cheaply and easily, the wind tunnel construction would be a bit more involved tho.
Been thinking about doing this to evaluate making a cheapo mini flow-hood with air purifier HEPA filters. They don't publish the impedance curve on those filters so it'd have to be measured and then a suitable fan selected. (I know some folks believe that these "thin" filters are not capable of laminar flow, but I remain skeptical that old-school many inch thick HEPA filters really achieve laminar flow in practice. Gotta do some experiments of on my current hood which has 6" thick classic HEPA.)
Oops, sorry for the unmitigated mind dump. The short is it depends on the particulars; do the engineering and see if the numbers work out.

Check my link it’s also in my signature, been running this setup for a year and have isolated around 50 cultures using this and occasionally antibiotics for wild foraged mushrooms I take tissue samples from

Hey 7Suns,
I noticed this a while back! I like it!
Can you tell me a bit more about how you selected that fan? What kinda velocity do you see out of it? Looks like it'd blow a lighter out.
Some folks in your thread suggested using a magnahelic gauge to measure static pressure, but a simple manometer with water would be a cheap way (less than a buck of hose from the HW store and some water) to measure the static pressure. I mean, static pressures for filters and fans are usually in in-h2o anyways, no conversions needed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pressure_measurement#Liquid_column_(manometer)
I think this air purifier HEPA style of flow hood could potentially be shrunk a lot with careful fan selection and chamber design.

Mine works great with them. However I do use two in parallel.

Yes it will blow a lighter out, that’s why I use a torch, but I have it wired to the high leg (black wire) you can wire it to the low leg for les turbulent air flow
I actually selected it at random I only took into consideration that it was a squirrel cage blower and it could produce a large volume of air with good pressure, I never bothered to spec out the fan curve or filter rating, I assumed it would still produce clean air it just wouldn’t be laminar, I believe I actually got lucky because it was actually laminar but I have it set to run to high, I might test the low leg function but I think I’m probably going to keep it as is because it works as is and I’ve had amazing results so far
I did about 80 g2g quart jars in front of the flowhood and nothing contaminated so I think that’s bad ass
