Are you letting the bags lean againts the side of the cooker?
A good tip, line the sides with card board. Then anything leaning againts the side will not melt :)

You can then grow your oyster mushies on the sterilized cardboard...they love the stuff.

You can also make a "basket" out of nylon window screen material, not messy and its reusable, also makes a good strainer basket for sterilizing straw substrate.

Been using filter bags for about 3 yrs. I always cram my cooker full, usually 4 5lb. bags of rye in a 22qt. cooker. The only time i've ever had a hole was when there wasn't enough water in the cooker. They lay right up against the sides and never burn. Another cause could be you have the bag sealed tight enough that excess pressure can't escape. Just fold the tops over a couple times before you put your bags in the cooker.
