what to do with a reishi..

hevvy & i happened upon a stump hosting several large reishi mushrooms. i have one of them wrapped in plastic in my fridge. it's been there a couple of days, going on 3 or 4.

are there any relatively simple ways to cook and prepare it?

Dry it out, powder it and use it for medicinal purposes, only if you are 100% certain it is reshi. By what I understand, they are not the best edible.. I recall reading that one table spoon reishi powder in tea is a good amount to use.

Slice it up and begin to dry it, so that it can store indefinately. Once it is dry you can make many things with it: tea, tincture, or capsules.

To the best of my (limited) knowledge, there aren't any (known) poisonous polypores, especially varnish fungi. Caution is always the best though....got a pic?

Anyways, powder that baby, and go back and grab the rest. Reishi, according to the Chinese = panacea (cure for all diseases), hence the title: "Mushroom of Immortality." The tea has a taste that some may find rather disagreeable; I always throw some kinda hippie-like herbal teabag in there when I make reishi tea.
