Clear to me, and now I really want to pour some agar in open air and compare contam rates! They have been less than 10% btw. Thanks for the write up and slapping us noobs up the head!

Just a quick incense test. There is definitely turbulent air, but I can’t imagine that is worse than just open air. Also less confining than SAB. Is it laminar? Nope. Is clean air blowing in the direction of work? Looks like it to me.
My numbers are 2 contam agar out of 100+ so far.
I would have made a new thread, just can’t seem to figure out how, sorry to hijac.

I can imagine it's worse than open air. That shit is blowing all over the place, not gonna be quite as drafty in open air.
And if you use techniques such as bunsen burner "sterile field", open air drafts become even more predictable.
BTW, my open air transfer success rate is 100%

After i started to r3search the vast amount of different flowhood designs here in shroomery, i quickly discovered this gold. "Blowhood". Amazin. No im not going to make one. But ive had a lot of fun reading the similar threads as this. I think the oldest was from 2002. How about a merv 13 filter to produce laminar flow?
-------------------- Seems like 99% of people in shroomery mushcult use the Bucket Tek. I do not and for saying this they call me arrogant cause i dont have pictures of my own mushrooms here. The mycoforum of my country just got their proof of shroomerys hostility. I do like it here though becaus of the agar. The archives are valuable.

Read the particle data for hardware store filters in the OP. Yes, they're worse than open air due to high velocity particle production and turbulence.
The effects of turbulence could be mitigated to some degree if your filter prevented the passage of particles, so long as your technique was perfect. This is not an endorsement of turbulent flow, just a conceptual illustration.

Did they ever create a hood of some sort, with a static energy generator to suck the particles away, just like a balloon charged with electricity would pick up your hair or the dust off the floor?
EDIT: Just now looking into it.. so it appears static electricity is actually a plague to a sterile work environment. It can be problematic, and so there are even devices made to eliminate it from happening..

Maybe boxfan blowhoods "work" because of the electrostatically charged furnace filters. The packaging doesn't explain what energy source is provided for the electrostatic charge though. I guess it's magic. (This should all be read with extreme sarcasm.)

My shmow hood does have a magical ionizer built in.
I do wonder though, if some people have trouble with static electricity.. not just working with a flow hood, but even in a SAB too. Imagine, you walk across the carpet to your SAB work area, dragging your feet the whole way, without even thinking about it. Then you grab a container to put inside, and it becomes charged too, sucking particles directly towards it. Something like that anyway. I guess I'll have to study all about it now, as I'm very curious about it all.

That animation looks great in theory, but in reality it's not going to catch every single particle. For the price of an air purifier with that technology, which doesn't have a large enough output to be useful in mycology, one would be at least halfway to the price of a FFU, if not close to the same price.
I do think static charges might help or hurt using a SAB. I will say I've given up trying to use a SAB.

Oh shit you built it, does that mean we finally get that demonstration thread you promised a month ago or are you just gonna go on with your lecture?

Oh shnap, you mean the Shmuvbox DLX 1.0 prototype that I built, that I was supposed to do a shmoke test or something? The one I've designed to be mounted right under the table, or even on the wall overhead, with extendable\retractable down spout that can be flexed into holding just about any position you want your flow bag to be? The one that has a true 99.99 HEPA filter, with all the gaps of the pleated filter material sealed off with glue, unlike most the other air purifier filters people tried using?
This one?

Yes, I'll set it up soon and run the tests for you guys. I'm already convinced i'll grow 2 fuck tons of mush though.. :P

I might even turbo charge it, along with cold air intake prefilter. Then I can ad Y-adapters to the output, and inflate like 6 bags at one time with all the extra horse power.
I can do a lot of work in 6 bags, without having to bring things in and out. 6 shmuck tons of mush sounds more like it!
