Anyone have experience with these Chinese laminar flow hoods? Thinking of getting one.

You'd be better off with a horizontal hood.

Is that a flow hood or a fume hood? Looks like a very small working area

Unfortunately, I literally do not have enough room. I live in a tiny apartment.

It uses a HEPA filter. Here's a similar model: https://www.faithful.cc/Mini-Laminar-Flow-Cabinet-pd6755981.html
The working area is 19in x 13in x 15in. So yes not big but it's enough to pour agar plates.

Plus you’re going to loose how many inches to lift your work off the turbulent air on the floor of that. how are there any pros Vs a sab. I don’t think that’s made to be a working area, looks better used for cooling tools and media or evaporating. I bet you could buy a couple pounds of mushrooms for what that things got to cost.

First timer here and planning to get started in the next week or so. It seems like an SAB is the nice, cheap, easy way to go for someone who isn't planning to go into some kind of full production right? I'm going simple PF tek.

I have not tried it, but would if my situation 'allowed' it
If I were to do it I would use a hot knife cutting tool or hot knife cutting tool foam( from amazon) also listed under hot knife cutting tool plastic --as a Possible alternative to rotary cutting tool --May be less likely to crack the tote. If one does this, use outside because of fumes from melting plastic.---

guy's, were all just joking. Flowhoods are Illuminati conspiracies meant to keep you from seeing god.
You don't even require a SAB, simply place a rose quarts crystal on top of plates and jars; charge crystals under the light of either a full moon or an eclipse for maximum anti hate energy.

I sacrificed my SAB to try this. 1. Cut holes in the bottom of the tub. 2. Glue metal screen in the tub but remember to leave space for plenum. 3. Place rose quarts in the plenum(see the glow?) and praise ctuhulhu. 4. Get to work.

Am i doing it wrong? I hope my plates are ok.
-------------------- Seems like 99% of people in shroomery mushcult use the Bucket Tek. I do not and for saying this they call me arrogant cause i dont have pictures of my own mushrooms here. The mycoforum of my country just got their proof of shroomerys hostility. I do like it here though becaus of the agar. The archives are valuable.

I can understand this weird obsession with ghetto Rube Goldberg solutions, it's not about mush cultivation with these folks, it's about the journey of building the project and buying gear. We've all been there, no?
I've been there, but just because i couldn't get a decent size tub like you folks have in the States in my neck of the desert. "Little Satan" is so monopolized, you have only two suppliers of plastic tubs and they both sell garbage (the shallow crap with small wheels and "frosted glass" walls, you know the kind). So a bought the only size available in clear that was fit for such an endeavor - A gosh darn mini fucking tub. Two of them, in a dub tub setup. Have you done agar in a mini tub sab? I did, and it was shit I still have PTSD from it.

But then i just randomly asked on one of the local mush cult groups if anyone knows where i can get a second hand FFU, and bam, immediately get in contact with a guy selling refurb lab stuff and get meself a unit (a proper lab unit) with new filters for a small fraction of the price. Also the FFUs from amazon are so cheap now, i don't see any reason not to buy one. That is, if your goal is to grow them caps. That's my 2 shekels anyway.
(uhhh... hi all! you don't know me, but i've been lurking here for a long time now. prolly done all the stupid shit in the op too he he gotta love this hobby)

I don't have room for it and an SAB has served me very well.

Totes are a decent get your foot in the door solution but are not ideal for long term, dedicated cultivation.
Think "outside the box"

I had this made out of 1/4" acrylic with polycarb covers.
These are pretty cool as well:

You get the idea.
