Upland burglary call leads to discovery, confiscation of hundreds of 'magic mushrooms' January 7, 2022 - ABC7

UPLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- Police stumbled upon a massive "magic mushroom" operation and seized hundreds of the illegal fungi after responding to a burglary call in Upland.
Authorities confiscated 1,074 trays of growing psychedelic mushrooms and another 92.5 pounds of dry mushrooms at the facility.
Upland police made the find while responding to a commercial burglary call near Sultana Avenue and 8th Street recently.
After making the discovery, they called in help from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department narcotics unit to seize the mushrooms and dismantle the operation.
There was no immediate word on arrests or charges.
California lawmakers are considering a bill that would make "magic mushrooms" and other types of psychedelic drugs legal.
Two years ago, Oregon became the first state to decriminalize the active ingredient in "magic mushrooms."
But for now, the psychedelic ingredients in "magic mushrooms" remain illegal in California.

Those cops are braindead, addicted to stimulating dopamine by arresting people for nothing, confiscating drugs that stop addiction, could they be any more blind and ignorant?

Could have been someone was trying to break into the facility itself, to steal the shrooms or thinking there was cash, or the building it was housed in, and either tripped an alarm or were witnessed by someone nosy. There's always plenty of people around just itching to get other people into trouble.
That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if it was total bullshit and a cover story made up by the narcs to excuse a warrant-less search.

Pineapples grown on Hollywood Blvd:

A productive, self-sufficient, southern California used to be a beautiful place to live, a breadbasket, as well as a donor state, giving more to the Union, financially, than it spends.
But, San Bernardino, itself, has gone bankrupt for years, with no obvious lifelines besides welfare (D) and police statism (R).
Now, the whole place gets pressure washed, from top to bottom, and there are large displacements of street people, every time some media event will be hosted.

When I originally read that part of the article my first impression was that there was a rat....
...but of course HBS brings up some good points too of how it could have played out.
Years ago a friend of mine got caught up for having a "hash oil lab" in his garage (He didn't have a "lab", all he did was personal extractions for himself and occasional small runs for friends, all he had was a small/medium blast tube and a small vacuum chamber)....But the way he was caught up was by a bunch of police officers pulling up and instantly going into his garage where his BHO stuff was saying there was "a call from a neighbor about someone breaking into the house".
I feel the entire thing was bull shit and some one ratted him out, and the local police department just used the excuse of "someone called about a break in" to make their way onto/into the property with out needing any search warrant.
The entire ordeal reeked of such bullshit.

Isn't that a strange and not so ideal way to dry mushrooms?
I know that cannabis flower is dried like that, letting it dry slowly in the open air....
...but with mushrooms one wants to get them crispy/cracker dry as quickly as possible.
Letting thick/big fruits like that just sit in open air I feel will not do the trick to get them cracker dry, also potential for mold/contamination, and likely more of a loss of potency versus them being dried rapidly in a dehydrator.
Just seems strange such a "large" operation would be drying the fruits in such a crude/ineffective manner...hanging in open air with just a single space heater and a single fan in a large room (looks like there might be a dehumidifier in there too, but still).

I think those heat lamps got it toasty pants and the hvac plus dehumidifiers move the air around and out. Mega drying chamber in theory. That said a whole room at 165°F is HOT!

Interesting.
I just didn't think what's seen in the pic could get a room that size hot & dry enough for a proper dry. I can see that going on though, more I look at it.
Nifty .

It looks like either that or some other PE variety ran from a clone just by the looks of it.
It's like the entire op was around reproducing the same fruit with more or less the same consistency across all the trays. Almost like someone was growing cubes with a similar methodology or routine as growing edibles.

PS: I found it a little curious that the law enforcement who snapped these photos left in certain things like the growing parameters (75 degrees F and 99% humidity per the meter in the last pic) and the general layout of the lab.
Maybe they were so caught up in sharing their "win" that they didn't realize they're also giving away cultivation-related info inadvertently.

1K+ trays and 92lbs dry and they “seized hundreds of mushrooms”. Definitely the burglars.

Does this include LSD?
That would be very cool.

It is quite possible. I worked for several years for an HVAC manufacturer building huge commercial and industrial HVAC units starting from the sheet metal fabrication all the way up to modular assembly, wiring, and plumbing. Ours were medium sized units (~200-300") in length that were capable of handling tens of millions of BTUs/hr but some of our other facilities made units much larger than that...but i digress. I agree with previous posts...sounds like a narc or a rat and illegal unwarranted search. If you are going to use commercial property for an operation such as that why would you have an alarm tied to the police and not secure that area well from unauthorized access? What a waste of useful fungi and tax $$ paid for police time.

Yes. You can check status of the bill online at the State of California Legislative website.
The legislature hasn't put it back on the calendar, but the bill is still alive even though conservatives (all Republicans and a few Democrats) opposed it last year.
From the most recent version, here are possession limits in the most recent version of SB-519. Note that the limits are per person. A family of four, for example, could have 8 grams of psilocybin in their possession without getting into trouble. If they are growing mushrooms that are 1 percent actives, that's 800 grams. The people who got busted in Upland are still way over this amount (unless they are a tribe of hundreds, and it doesn't sound like that was the case).
If you possess blotter hits of 150ug each and you live by yourself, you could still possess 66 hits before the cops have a case against you.
Quote:
(1) “Allowable amount” means the following quantities of a substance per person or, in the context of facilitated or supported use involving multiple persons, the aggregate of allowable amounts per participant. “Allowable amount” does not include the weight of any material of which the substance is a part or to which the substance is added, dissolved, held in solution, or suspended, or any ingredient or material combined with the substance specified in this subdivision to prepare a topical or oral administration, food, drink, or other product, including, but not limited to, a brew or tea: (A) Two grams of dimethyltryptamine, otherwise known as DMT.
(B) Fifteen grams of ibogaine. (C) One-hundredth (0.01) of a gram of lysergic acid diethylamide, otherwise known as LSD. (D) Two grams of psilocybin or four ounces of a plant or fungi containing psilocybin. (E) Two grams of psilocyn or four ounces of a plant or fungi containing psilocyn. (F) Four grams of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, otherwise known as MDMA.
