Regarding soil mix I recently ordered/potted everything in this per the recommendation of those on this forum;

'Ariocarpus Rare Cactus Complete Mineral substrate w/limestone Akadama Pumice x2'

My cacti are absolutely loving it - I have noticed a definite improvement across the board since switching from the germination soil.  The fella took a little while to ship it out, but give them a break - they're down in Louisiana and it's hurricane season!

Oh yeah she will definitely get pollinated :yesnod:

I have been told by a few people that this is the best for lophs

Cannot confirm or deny as I haven't personally tried it due to not being available where I live.

Question: How do you ensure it gets pollinated?

You just self pollinate like for pumpkins and zucchini. Using a small brush take the pollen from the anthers on the end of the stamens around the outside of the flower's centre and gently brush it on the stigma in the middle.
IIRC most northern form varieties like texana and grandiflora are able to be self pollinated, some others need the pollen to come from another plant. I understand that cross pollination will result in stronger offspring and better germination rates too

Cheers. Any idea how long after the flower shrivels up until it grows the seed pod bit?

And are double flowers rare or no big deal?

About a week-ish, double and triple flowers depend on maturity and age of the specimen ime.  All my larger older ones pop double and triples all summer.

I've got this one thats been doing it from the start though...

these have been like this for about a year.
they are very small still. i think they are about 3yrs old. i havent done much with them and they were only on the window sill forever. they are in my 2x4 now under an electric sky v300. idk if thats to much light or not at about 30in away from light @40%power.

maybe they need nutrients or a better soil? i busted up some salt build up around them and put little dusting of fresh soil on top.

No offense, but it's your soil mix. Your soil mix is way to organic for Lophs, and they need to be in much smaller pots. I use a mix of coarse sand, pumice, and potting mix for all mine, and they love it. They also need more water. Contrary to what people say, they can handle regular watering. Even indoors in the winter, mine get watered once every two weeks or so.

Hope this helps

I thought they looked dry, but what do I know, nothing about growing these, that's for sure.

Yeah I think watering is the main issue. Peat is annoying for lophs in some major ways, including being difficult to re-wet if it gets too dry and providing an environment for gnats if it stays too damp.  In spite of those pitfalls though, peat mixes can still be usable, especially at the seedling stage.

I've heard the Thai greenhouse loph industry uses peat a lot even at large sizes. I guess they have things pretty dialed in and don't have to worry about cold.
